Barcelona have been looking for several names in the transfer market of late. Their longtime target is now awaiting an offer and looking to move to greener pastures.
Barcelona have added several midfielders to their catalogue in the shape of Arthur, Malcom and Arturo Vidal in the summer’s transfer market. The Catalans, however, did not manage to nail onto the signatures of their favoured man- Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch international is now desperate to join Barcelona.
De Jong is currently on the books of Ajax Amsterdam and playing his trade in the Eredivisie. There was a rumoured agreement between Barca and Ajax about a transfer this summer should the latter fail to qualify for the Champions League’s group stages. However, the Dutch giants did make their way into Europe’s elite competition.
Yet, all signs point towards this one being Frenkie De Jong’s last season in Amsterdam and the club’s sporting director Marc Overmars seems to be aware of it. Barcelona are the probable and preferred destination to land the player who has been the subject of lucrative offers from other European giants too.
Barcelona’s desire to add De Jong into their books is high and that means Ajax are looking to take every possible advantage from the Catalans by demanding a hefty transfer fee. Barcelona’s former technical secretary Robert Fernandez was the man responsible for coming up with a likely offer.
Barcelona’s recent accounts in terms of finances have not been very positive following high price signings in the last few transfer windows. However, they remain keen on signing De Jong with Eric Abidal and Josep Segura looking to strike a deal at a transfer cost of approximately 50 million euros.
Barcelona’s interest in De Jong has been longstanding and a 50 million purchase would be a huge bargain from the Catalans’ point of view. Meanwhile, Ajax will lose one of the many talents they have produced to a European superpower.
