Barcelona target and Real Betis star, Fabian Ruiz has reportedly rejected the Catalan giants to sign a new deal with Real Betis.
The 21-year-old has been in brilliant for this season for the Real Betis and has been one of the reasons that Betis sit a mere five points behind fourth-placed Real Madrid. However, with good performances come interest from the best in Europe, and that’s exactly what’s happened to Fabian Ruiz, with the likes of Barcelona, Tottenham and even Roma interested in his services.
With Real Madrid taking advantage of former Real Betis’ star Dani Cellabos’ low buy-out clause, Barcelona also wants to the same thing. The 21-year-old Ruiz, has a buy-out clause of only €14 million according to reports from AS. However, despite that Betis have made their move and offered the youngster a new contract, which could potentially double both his release clause and his current salary.
The 6ft 2” Spaniard has come up through the ranks, all the way from Real Betis B and has cemented his place in the Real Betis starting eleven this season, with more than a few brilliant performances. According to Whoscored.com ratings, Fabian Ruiz has been one of the best Real Betis players, with an overall rating of 7.02, behind only Joaquin.
However, the stats don’t showcase the 21-year-old’s skills as while he does play as a central midfielder, Fabian Ruiz has the ability to be both defensive and attacking. While his brilliant passing accuracy of 89% helps the team moving forward, the Spaniard also makes at least 2 tackles, 1 interception per game, which shows that he can play more defensively as well.

This has led Betis to offer him a brand new contract with a €40 million buy-out clause, but Ruiz wants it closer to €30 million to ensure he remains available for a future move. However, despite that the 21-year-old has reassured the club and its fans that he wants to stay, saying, “My agents are currently negotiating with Betis and I really hope we can renew … my dream is to stay at the club and if this must happen through a renewal, then it will.”
Author’s take:
In this day and age, €30 million is peanuts compared to the fees that clubs are shelling out for players and given Fabian Ruiz’s performances that value will only increase. However, with Barcelona and even Tottenham insistent on signing the Spanish youngster, the fee is well within their reach for one of Spain’s brightest prospects.
