FC Barcelona is after the Manchester City right-back Joao Cancelo. Cancelo can be on his way out of City after just one season at the Ethiad.

According to reports from The Telegraph, Barcelona is after the Manchester City right-back Joao Cancelo. Cancelo arrived at the Etihad in the last season only. He was part of a swap deal in which Danilo went to Juventus and he came to Manchester City. However, the £60m investment was not enough to compete with Kyle Walker for the starting place in the right-back position.

Joao Cancelo has not settled in Manchester City.

Cancelo failed to win Pep Guardiola’s trust and hence could be on his way out after just a season in Manchester. He made only 11 appearances for Manchester City this season. Hence Manchester City will look to overcome and avenge their losses. The Telegraph reports that Cancelo could again be part of a swap deal. FC Barcelona and Manchester City will look to swap Nelson Semedo and Joao Cancelo for their right-back spot.

However, both the Portugal Internationals have enjoyed a different season for their respective teams. Nelson Semedo made 29 appearances for Barcelona this season. Semedo is the first-choice right-back for the Barcelona coach Quique Setien. However, Joao Cancelo is a substitute for Kyle Walker.

The Cancelo-Semedo swap deal is a probability.

FC Barcelona and Manchester City can be part of a Nelson Semedo and Joao Cancelo swap deal.

Cancelo does have previous Laliga experience. He played 3 seasons in Valencia before departing for Italy. Barcelona could give him that chance to return to Spain. In this season several swap deals can happen and the Cancelo-Semedo swap may be one of them. The deal will, however, favor Manchester City financially.

Manchester City can allow Cancelo to leave but they will want a replacement for the right-back spot who can compete with Kyle Walker. Cancelo has 5 years left still in his City contract, whereas Semedo’s contract expires in 2022. The coronavirus pandemic has taken a huge financial toll in all the clubs. Hence, the majority of them will go for player swap deals this summer.
