Barcelona Transfer News: Reports say that Barcelona will try to sign Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte if they can’t sign Jules Kounde
Barcelona Transfer News: Fichajes, a Spanish news site, says that if Barcelona can’t sign Jules Kounde in the summer transfer window, they will focus on getting Aymeric Laporte. But it’s not likely that Manchester City will let the 28-year-old defender go.
Aymeric Laporte moved from Athletic Club to Manchester City in January 2018. Since then, things have been all over the place at Etihad.
In the last four and a half years, the Spanish international has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League. However, Pep Guardiola has not always used him as his first-choice centre-back.
Barcelona Transfer News: Barcelona’s back-up pan for Jules Kounde
The 28-year-old has played for Manchester City 153 times so far. He has scored 12 goals and set up three others.
The things that Laporte has done have made him a mainstay at the back for the Spanish national team. They have made him a target for several big clubs in Europe, including Barcelona.
The Catalan giants have already improved their defence by making a Bosman move to sign Andreas Christensen from Chelsea.
But since Gerard Pique is nearing the end of his long and successful career and Samuel Umtiti and Oscar Mingueza are not in Xavi Hernandez’s plans, Barcelona will need to sign another central defender.
So, Jules Kounde is the top player Barcelona wants to sign. The Blaugrana are coming up with different ways to do so.
Will Barcelona go for Laporte?
But the Catalan giants are having trouble getting the 23-year-old centre-back because Sevilla and Chelsea have reportedly agreed to pay £55 million for his transfer.
Barcelona will have to find a replacement for Kounde. Laporte looks like a good option. The Spanish player will also fill the need for a left-footed centre-back in the team since Clement Lenglet has moved to Tottenham Hotspur and Samuel Umtiti could leave Camp Nou soon.
But because the 28-year-old is so important to Pep Guardiola’s team, Manchester City is not likely to let him leave in the summer transfer window.
It will be interesting to see if Barcelona can get Laporte to leave the Etihad or if they will find someone else to replace Kounde.
