Wantaway winger Philippe Coutinho has been approached for a mega-money move by this unlikely club!
Barcelona shocked (or not) the world last winter when they broke the bank for the signing of long-term target, the then-Liverpool talisman Philippe Coutinho, in a deal that saw the Spanish giants pay their English counterparts 120 million euros. The Brazilian, as a result, became the most expensive signing in the history of the former, and third-most expensive across the history of transfers in world football.
It goes without saying that going to Barcelona, especially with such a mammoth price tag attached to your name, means that there a verity of sky-high standards that automatically get placed upon a player as well, which realistically may have been really unfair for any player, let alone Coutinho. And very unfortunately, things have not gone as planned for the attacking star at Camp Nou, and it has come to a point where Barca are willing to listen to offers for the former Inter Milan player, even if it means taking a loss on his sale.
It is also true that La Blaugrana manager Ernesto Valverde has given Coutinho ample opportunities to stake a claim in the starting eleven and make an impact, but consistency has eluded the 26-year-old, and he seems to have a massive dent to his confident as well. Ousmane Dembele, his dorect competition for a place in the first eleven, has been much better this season, and most crucially, has linked up incredibly well with Leo Messi and Luis Suarez. That has seen Coutinho’s chances continue to be limited, and they only keep falling by the day.
Manchester United have been credited with interest in the winger since the winter window opened earlier this year, as they are looking for a potential replacement for their left wing, where Alexis Sanchez has failed miserably since making his move from Arsenal, and this also offers Coutinho a route back into the Premier League. It just shows how badly his dream move has gone so far, and if latest reports to be believed, Barca have received a lucrative offer for their troubled star from another, if wholly unsurprising, party as well.
Chinese Super League side Hebei Fortune are the latest team to been credited with an interest in the former Liverpool frontman. The Asians have previous history with the Spanish champions, having signed another South American in Javier Mascherano in January 2018, and are looking for another favour from the Catalans. Coutinho will reportedly earn a whopping 40 million euros a year, but the catch is that Hebei will only pay 60 million for the transfer.
This when the Catalans have set a price tag of 105 million euros on the winger, and the club is not ready to face a loss of more than 15 million euros, despite it seeming pretty obvious that Coutinho moving out from Catalonia would be the best option for both player and club. The Rio-born player will finally get a move out and a chance to start afresh, while Barca will free up a large part of their wage bill and get some cash for transfers.
