Barcelona have already had to cater with the absences of Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti and Leo Messi in the last few weeks. To make things worse, there has been another setback in the squad.
Barcelona beat Cultural Leon in their Copa del Rey opener by a 1-0 margin. Clement Lenglet scored for the Catalans deep into stoppage time to ensure a first leg advantage in what was an unconvincing performance for them. However, Ernesto Valverde will be worried by a graver factor- that is an injury to one of his star men.
Barcelona’s midfielder Sergi Samper had to be taken off in the first half of the match on Wednesday night after fears of a muscle injury. The player is yet to undergo tests, and will do so by Friday to have the extent of his injury known. However, he did look in some nasty pain as he made his way off the pitch.
The 23-year-old looked pretty good from the start, his first since suffering an injury lay off three weeks ago. Barcelona will be sweating over his fitness, especially with the season nearing a busier stage and a third competition coming in full flow soon.
We can only hope that Sergi Samper is doing good and will not miss too many matches through injury. He is one of Barcelona’s brightest prospects but has had his ups and downs through numerous injuries, here is hoping that this one is not very troublesome and Samper gets some solace after working hard for all these years.
