Liverpool spent their January transfer window without much of a fuss, signing just Takumi Minamino from Red Bull Salzburg. But the Reds were reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich youngster, only for the player to reject a move.

Bayern GK rejects the Reds

According to Sport1, Liverpool asked for Bayern’s 20-year old goalkeeper, Christian Fruchtl in December. The Reds wanted to sign the youngster from the Bavarian team to be their 2nd choice goalkeeper. But Fruchtl rejected the move, as he wanted to play for a team where he would be a guaranteed first-choice shot-stopper.

Fruchtl has come from Bayern’s youth ranks and is a familiar face in the Bayern Munich II side in Germany’s third division. But the shot-stopper is yet to make a debut for the senior side as he continues to be the third choice behind Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich.

Alexander Nübel, current Schalke 04 goalkeeper has agreed to join Bayern at the end of this season, which will push Fruchtl further down the pecking order. Hence, Christian is still looking for a move away from the Bavarians but Liverpool was never going to be an option.

Bayern – The GK Heavyweights

The Reds currently have one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Alisson, between the sticks, who is set to be No. 1 for years to come. With Fruchtl’s rejection, Adrian will continue to be Liverpool’s 2nd choice goalkeeper this season. The Spaniard was signed from West Ham at the start of this season and even proved to be a safe choice during Alisson’s time away due to an injury. Caoimhin Kelleher is Liverpool’s third-choice goalkeeper and has played in Carabao Cup.

Liverpool are just five wins away from their first-ever Premier League title and will be up against West Ham on Monday night. But the Reds lost 0-1 against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of Round of 16 in the Champions League this week.

Bayern, on the other hand, are in the middle of a tight league battle against RB Leipzig and Dortmund. The German side will face Chelsea in their Champions League fixture on Tuesday night.
