BCCI:The four new dynamic arrivals

The Board of Control for Cricket in India, the country’s richest sporting body and gloriously, also the richest cricket board in the world, has been facilitated with a new panel of elites to govern the happenings of the organisation.

It had been in the ambience of arguments for last months, when Anurag Thakur and Ajay Shirke, the elected President and the Secretary of BCCI respectively were dismissed from the board by the apex court on account of numerous charges, of which not following the Lodha committee recommendations is well known. After that, the very name of BCCI would produce images of vagueness and vulnerability in the head.
On 30th of January, the Supreme court of India, in propagating action for the board, has appointed four renowned personalities to it. Let’s have a glance on them, their politics of notions, reasons which instigated them to take up the job, and their responses on that:

1.Vinod Rai:

Rai is titled as the interim president of BCCI. He is famed for his appearances in his auditing the 2G spectrum scam and the coal scam. Labelled as ex-Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Rai received his graduation and post graduation degrees from Hindu College, University of Delhi.
Vinod Rai has been revered as the figure of anti-corruption in India.
After this prominent decision, Rai states, “I am a true lover of the game of cricket. My role is that of a night-watchman in a sense that we need to put in place good governance, good system and structure in place to ensure a smooth transition to an elected body which in future will bring about the good administration in BCCI.”

2.Ramachandran Guha:

The writer-historian is well known for his books Gandhi Before India, India After Gandhi and collection of essays Patriots and Partisans. Born in Dehradun, he too is an alumnus of the University of Delhi. Guha has been decorated with the Padma Bhushan, the highest civilian award of India and numerous literary honours and prizes including the Sahitya Academy Award. Guha is a great lover and follower of Cricket.

3.Vikram Limaye:

Vikram Limaye is the CEO of IDFC and in the BCCI panel, he holds the responsibility of a banker. He pursued his Chartered Accountancy and MBA in Finance and Multinational Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, USA.

Limaye has a lot to say on his move, “Yes, my consent was taken and I consider it as a huge honour especially as I was considered worthy of this role by the Supreme Court of India. I take up the responsibility with utmost seriousness and will be working to ensure better governance in the BCCI.”

4.Diana Edulji:

It’s but a fascination that Edulji is the only sportsperson appointed in the panel. She bears a distinguished cricket career of having been the captain of the Indian Cricket Team, playing in 34 ODIs and 20 tests. Born and brought up in Mumbai, Edulji has been honoured with the Padma Shri and the Arjuna Award.
Edulji says, “I was asked by amicus curiae Gopal Subramanium whether I would like to be a part and I had said ‘yes’. I was expecting a role but I was surprised after being named in administrators panel. It is a huge responsibility given to me by the Apex Court and I will like to do justice.”
