It’s easy to say that Ben Chilwell has been a brilliant signing for Chelsea football club. Since his arrival, the full-back system that Frank Lampard so desperately wanted to introduce is now in full flow.
However, his introduction to the club was at first highly speculative given that a lot of Chelsea fans didn’t like him. A homegrown product from Leicester City, Chelsea fans already had a taste of Chilwell and didn’t like what was on display.
In fact, a lot of them wanted Spanish international Sergio Reguilon who was on loan to Sevilla instead of Ben Chilwell. However, with Reguilon en route to Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur, Ben Chilwell was Stamford Bridge bound.
Chilwell has definitely proved his haters wrong with the performances to date. Without a shadow of a doubt, he has done incredibly well in his start to life at Chelsea.
Partnering up with right-back Reece James, both Englishmen are emulating the partnership of Liverpool duo Trent Alexander Arnold and Andy Robertson. Their system of spraying in crosses is quite similar.
Additionally, Ben Chilwell has improved the defensive side as well. With Marcos Alonso out of the team, Chilwell’s been impressive. He’s quick and agile hence can trackback down contrary to Marcos Alonso previously.

Chelsea lost yet more points after they drew 1-1 to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge. A first-half goal from Olivier Giroud gave Chelsea the lead. Moreover, it was Ben Chilwell who provided the assist for the French striker.
However, Anwar El Ghazi wiped out the lead for Chelsea after scoring in the second half. Ben Chilwell has a golden opportunity to give Chelsea the win with a volley. But his blazing shot fired past the post.
However what happened after the match has enraged some Chelsea fans. Chilwell was seen smiling and exchanging pleasantries with England teammate Jack Grealish after the full-time whistle.
And it’s easy to say some Chelsea fans did not like that after yet another disappointing result from the team. Some fans blamed the player’s for having weak mentality and not doing enough to fight for the club.
Chelsea fans are extremely disappointed with their side’s performance after yet another match with dropped points. Aston Villa is a match they should’ve secured in the bag and a chance to get a lead on their opponents.
But they’ve squandered that opportunity and now will face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City up next. A game that promises lots of attacking football and creative display on the pitch. Frank Lampard will be urging his players to wake up.
