Benfica player on the way to Man United ?

Benfica youngster Goncalo Guedes has been linked with a move to Manchester United in the last couple of days.

Portuguese media Record suggest that the 20-year-old winger is set to leave Benfica this week and will join Manchester United. He was left out of the squad in Benfica’s 4-0 win against Tondela this weekend.

Guedes has been with Benfica since 2014, playing for the B team and later was promoted to the senior team. The youngster has played 65 games for the Portuguese side and is now a transfer target for many clubs.

According to British medias, Manchester United have agreed on a deal to sign Guedes in this January transfer window. It is understood that the player has had talks with Man United officials before.

English media outlet Express reports that Jose Mourinho wants to sign Guedes as a replacement for Memphis Depay. After the exit for Dutch winger to Lyon last week, Mourinho is in search for a perfect youngster who can fulfill the potential at Manchester United. Benfica’s Guedes is one among the players who are being monitored by Mourinho’s side.

Guedes has emerged as one of the best young talents, and is also a target for various European clubs. The Portugal international has enjoyed a fine season, scoring seven goals from 28 games. There are reports that both Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain are interested in signing him.

Jose Mourinho

It is very much clear that Manchester United has been following Guedes’s development at Benfica for quite some time. Jose Mourinho’s scouts have watched him on several occasions over the past six months. Portuguese newspaper Record claim Guedes is set to say goodbye to Benfica fans later this week. As per the latest reports, the youngster is expected to depart for a fee of around £26million.

Last week Rui Vitória, the Benfica manager didn’t pick Guedes for match day squad which has fuelled further speculation about his future. The manager said that he had other players to play in that position. Rui Vitoria also confirmed that he had no intention to sell the player.

He said: “The coach make decision, I’ve decided not to pick him for this game. There were others to play and I chose that way. I do not have any indication that Goncalo will leave, the president knows what to do about ‘Gonçalos’.”
