Some key players are being rested for the final T20I to be played against Windies on November 11, India have already clinched the series 2-0.
The Indian team management has decided to rest key players Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kuldeep Yadav for the third and final T20I against the Windies to be played in Chennai. Team India have already taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 by defeating the world champions by five wickets and 71 runs respectively at Kolkata and Lucknow. The All-India senior selection committee has named Siddarth Kaul as the sole replacement in the squad.
According to the BCCI press release, “the decision has been made to allow the trio to be in the best physical condition ahead of India’s tour to Australia.” The Australian tour is scheduled to begin on November 21, ten days after the third T20I is scheduled to take place. All the three players are part of both the T20I and Test squad to tour Australia. The 28-year old Punjab fast bowler Siddarth Kaul made his debut against Ireland earlier this year and has picked 3 wickets in the two T20Is he has played. Recently he picked up 12 wickets in four outings for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, including a five wicket haul.
The Indian team has done well in the format in the recent past and the stand-in captain Rohit Sharma is fulfilling the leading duties with precision as evident in his performance in the second T20I in which he scored his fourth century in the format and became the first batsman to score 4 centuries in T20 internationals. Sharma also became the highest run scorer in the format for India getting past Virat Kohli’s tally of 2102 runs. After his unbeaten 111 against the Windies, Rohit now has 2203 runs in the format.
