The current European football season is going on in full swing, with matches happening in major leagues almost daily. The football betting market has heated up considerably as the season has progressed, with some close contests.
As the new year approaches, and the month-long Winter Transfer Window just around the corner, the transfer markets are seeing lots of activities, with agents and players sending out feelers, seeking a potential deal with clubs of their choice. Although this year, the clubs will be spending much less, thanks to the economic downturn.
Let’s have a look at some of the biggest transfer news and rumors for the upcoming window.
1. Lionel Messi
The biggest name by far for this window was Messi, who has indicated that he was looking to end his long association with Barcelona. However, the unrealistic price of €700 million to buy him midseason is unlikely to find any takers. Another factor that may delay his exit is the upcoming presidential elections. However, there is a probability that Messi may leave the club at the end of the current season when his contract expires.
2. Mesut Ozil
Considered to be one of the best midfielders in the current generation of footballers, but has lost his sheen during the last two seasons, sitting out of the Arsenal team for the better part of the tournament and has found himself omitted from the current squad list.
The Gunners are keen on getting rid of him and have offered to loan him to Juventus for the remainder of his contract. While Juventus has rejected him once, they will surely be looking for a bargain offer, as he shares a great tuning with Cristiano Ronaldo, back from their Real Madrid days.
3. David Alaba
One of the mainstays of Bayern Munich, David Alaba is looking for an early exit from the club, before his contract expires at the end of the current season.
He has already revealed Real Madrid to be his club of choice, in spite of Chelsea and Manchester United showing keen interest in signing him up.
Widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the world, the Austrian has played more than 350 games for Bayern Munich and has won 9 Bundesliga, as well as 2 UEFA Champions League trophies with the club.
4. Christian Eriksen
Inter Milan have announced that they have put up the sensational Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen for sale for the January transfer window. Having joined the club in January, he has managed to start just 12 Serie A games.
The 28-year-old will be eagerly looking forward to rejoining his previous club, the Tottenham Hotspurs. But the soon to be announced PSG manager Pochettino is likely to throw a spanner in the works by proposing a swap deal between Eriksen and Leandro Paredes to Inter Milan.
5. Georginio Wijnaldum
Rumors have been rife that the Dutch midfielder is looking to exit Liverpool once his contract expires this summer. Jürgen Klopp would very much like him to stay back, and has offered him a new contract to sign after the current one expires.
Having reportedly received an offer from Barcelona, he has asked for more time from Liverpool to chart his future course.
6. Eric Garcia
Barcelona are reportedly in close contact with Garcia’s agent, Iván de la Peña, to sign up the Manchester City defender, and are expected to make a transfer announcement in January. Having played just 3 Premier League games under Pep Guardiola, the 19-year-old is keen to move back to his home city, where he trained.
Barcelona will be looking forward to grooming him as an eventual successor to Gerard Pique.
