“Bit Surprised by the Exclusion of Mo. Shami Ahead of T20 World Cup”, Mitchell Johnson

T20 World Cup 2022 – Former Australia fast bowler and the 2013 Ashes series hero’ Mitchell Johnson has been surprised to see the exclusion of Mohammad Shami. The Indian selectors have announced the players for the upcoming T-20 World Cup including the four fast bowlers without the name of Shami.

After the humiliating exit from the Asia Cup 2022, India has named Jasprit Bumrah, Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh the four regular pacers. While Shami’s name has been in contention still which surprised many critics for T20 World Cup 2022. Mitchell Johnson who’s playing currently in the legends league has said,

Bit Of a risk to see India selection towards the T-20 World Cup. With the combination of two pacers and two spinners it’s not fair enough. Even if you add in an all rounder too.

Johnson believes that Australia pitches are more suitable for the fast bowlers compared to medium pacers,

Australia Is all about being fast bowlers. At such fast pitches team need three regular fast bowlers or possibly the four. If i remind myself back in 2013 we had a plan of fast bowlers against England.

In the India team only the bowler has the ability to bowl over 140 km/h but again being fast without any variations will not going to give any advantage to the team Johnson remarks.

In the recently concluded Asia Cup, the defending champions were on the receiving end throughout the tournament. While the presence of inexperienced bowler team suffered some major defeats for the team.

Johnson also stated it’s a bit of out of a box approach to not see someone company you as a fast bowler.

As a fast bowler you hardly need someone bowls at same pace. But you need guys to back other.

While in the 2013-14 Ashes series, Johnson believes it was Ryan Harris and Siddle bowling pair who complemented at another end. And it was Johnson way who stood firm against England to destroying everyone.

Before the ashes series there was question over me bowling too quick. But as i say the combination of Ryan and Peter balanced the side. As australia is good for bowling fast but you need to control the line and lengths.

Warner and Smith should not be captain for Australia: Mitchell Johnson

Earlier Aaron Finch’s retirement has opened the door of captaincy for other players to lead Australia. Some of the big names come to the fore like Warner and Smith. But Johnson was in disfavour to see both players lead the Austrian side again.

See both players are towards the end of great careers. So its not right to appoint them as a captain over youngster who’s searching the opportunities to succeed.

Even Johnson stated, that Pat Cummins has the workload to lead Australia across the formats. Someone like Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green as a good choice with Travis Head is also there in the column.
