Borussia Dortmund vs. Real Madrid : Player ratings

Real Madrid travelled to Dortmund to play their Champions league tie against German giants, Borussia Dortmund. Los Blancos came to face Dortmund on the back of a draw in the La Liga.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened up the scoring for Real Madrid against the run of the game when Dortmund were looking totally in control but Dortmund equalised just before half time with the help of an error from Keylor Navas which was helped by Raphael Varane and tucked in the net by Aubameyang.

Raphael Varane again put in Real Madrid ahead in the game by putting in a rebound from Benzema shot after a sumptuous delivery in the box from Ronaldo. Came in as a substitute, Andre Schurlle saved Dortmund after scoring a volley of the highest kind to level the score and earn an important point.

We look at the ratings for the Dortmund players :

R. Burki – 6/10

Did everything that he could possibly do. Made some good saves and conceded the goals which would be expected of him.

R. Guierrero – 7/10

His attacking game was a prospect on the night for Dortmund. Navas had to make some much needed saves from his thunderous shots.

M. Ginter – 5/10

He looked all over the place and allowed to much space for Real Madrid on counter. Caught in for both the goals.

Very ordinary performance. Left too much spaces in attempt to go forward.

S. Papasthapolous – 6/10

Commanding in air and very solid in defense. Covered in the spaces left by Ginter.

M. Schmelzer – 6/10

Was good in his understanding with Guierrero going forward but wasn’t shrewd enough to do anything against a relentless Real defense.

O. Dembele – 6/10

Very lively and energetic in his display in the first half but failed in to convert any of the glorious chances he created.

Mario Gotze – 5/10

Could have been his night of resurgence on the highest level buy failed to do anything in playmaker role he was given. Subbed off after 15 minutes into the second half.

G. Castro – 6/10

Worked really hard throughout the game. His off the ball game was really good, pressed in really energetically and a really inspiring performance for Dortmund going forward.

J. Weigl – 8/10

Best player on the pitch for Bourssia Dortmund. Was instrumental with his passing as he completed all his passes And very assured in possession. He was at the heart of every Dortmund attack and Covered in a lot of ground as Dortmund were playing with a very high line and Castro-Gotze very high up the pitch.

P. Aubameyang – 7/10

He gave all kind of threats to Real defense. His frightening pace was at times too much for Real and also chipped in a with a goal which could’ve gone in anyway.

Substitutes –

A. Schurlle – 7/10

Saved Dortmund with a top notch volleyed goal and was very active even though he played through an injury

C. Pulisic – 5/10

Could’ve played in Schurlle rather than testing Navas himself.

E. Mor – 4/10

Had no effect in the game.
