The Los Blancos cleary miss Cristiano Ronaldo’s presence and his goals in the side but a Brazil legend has revealed who can fill his void in the team, and it’s a rather surprising choice.
Juventus pulled off an incredible coup when they signed former Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, especially with the likes of PSG and Manchester United in the race for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. While there were questions about his ability and Ronaldo’s age, but so far he has like always defied his critics scoring seven goals and producing a further six assists.
The Serie A giants and cunning users of the transfer market, Juventus managed to step in and swoop in for the 33-year-old’s signature in a blockbuster 100 million move. But with Real Madrid missing out on Neymar all those years ago, with Barcelona swooping in to sign the former Santos star, the Los Blancos made no mistake with the second Brazilian starlet. They immediately made a move for Flamengo star Vinicius Junior and struck a deal with the Brazilian side, which saw Vinicius join Real Madrid after he turns 18.
And with Cristiano Ronaldo leaving, many fans and critics believe that the Brazilian could and hopefully become as good as the Portuguese. But, Brazil legend Cafu has revealed that the youngster could replace Ronaldo, even going so far as to say “Vinicius is not a star at Real Madrid at the moment, but he will be soon. Nobody can ever truly replace Cristiano Ronaldo, because he was unique, a one-off, who created an unbelievably legacy of success at the club. But what I see in Vinicius is special too, I believe he is the best candidate in football to replace Cristiano and to conquer the world with Madrid.
The 18-year-old is easily one of Europe’s brightest young stars and his performances at Flamengo had the world standing upright but it was Real Madrid who made the first move. His pace, combined with attacking prowess and a great eye for goal makes the Brazilian a brilliant forward, but it’s his dribbling and ball control that has his opponents befuddled. The 18-year-old has the ability to pull of incredible tricks in key games, outfoxing defenders at his will.
Cafu further added “There needs to be a lot of patience from others and a lot of hard-work. Vinicius is going to triumph at Real Madrid, but he’s not a star yet. He can’t be compared now to Cristiano Ronaldo. Cristiano is Cristiano, with all the history [he has] at Real Madrid. He conquered everything there. Vinicius has all [it takes] to follow in his footsteps. He can be the new Cristiano, but he has to sweat a lot for that to happen.”
Vinicius Junior shouldn’t be in such a hurry to grow up and take on a burdern as big as Cristiano Ronaldo’s, as players have struggled to replace someone far less prolific. However, given that Real Madrid and even President Florentino Perez is looking at someone more high-profile, if given the chance the 18 year old should show that he has the chops to provide and help the Los Blancos replace their legend.
