The images reveals Manchester City could face Barcelona.
Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham could face each other in the knockout stages. The other four teams in the Champions League draw are Spanish champions Barcelona, Dutch four-time winners Ajax, Italian champions Juventus and Portuguese champions Porto. It is the first time since 2009 that four English sides are in the last eight of the Champions League. In Friday’s draw, Uefa will also pick the ‘home’ and ‘away’ sides for the final at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano stadium. The Champions League draw for quarter final is scheduled to place today but the fixtures of quarter finals were already leaked yesterday. The image shows who Liverpool and Manchester United will be facing.
Liverpool will be facing Ajax whereas Manchester United will be facing Tottenham Hotspurs according to the image that was ‘leaked’ online yesterday. All eight clubs will be thinking they have a chance of going all the way but know they will have a tricky last eight tie awaiting them. Less than 24 hours before the draw, the four two-legged fixtures have seemingly been ‘leaked’ on social media. There will of course have been a dummy run, or two, before Friday’s main event to ensure everything is running smoothly. But like with any big draw, fans are getting excited by the draw that has been released on social media. The document, which has the official Champions League logo printed, pairs two of the four Premier League sides together. In the piece of paper being shared in social media, there is a UEFA Champions League logo on it and the four matches that could take place. It shows Liverpool going up against AFC Ajax, Juventus facing FC Porto, Manchester United battling Tottenham Hotspur and FC Barcelona pairing with Manchester City.
This is not the first time this season that the Champions League draw were leaked. Earlier this season the round of 16 fixtures were also leaked. In December multiple images were circulated which showed who the likes of Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Roma will be facing. However, the leaked images did turn out to be false. So it seems the image that leaked yesterday might not be true. One possible explanation of this might be the fact that UEFA hold mock Champions League draws and these might be the outcome of one such mock incident.
The authenticity of the above mentioned fixtured can certainly not be verified but many people think that UEFA might already have fixed the draw. This could have been a test run or a trial and may be very different when the offical draw occurs. It’s safe to take the leaked image as a grain of salt and it shouldn’t decrease the excitement of what the quarter final fixtures of this elite competition will be.
