Breaking: Julen Lopetegui provides hints on Superstar’s club future

Real Madrid bought Thibaut Courtois from English Premier League side Chelsea to bolster their goalkeeping department, but the Belgium International has not yet featured for Real Madrid.

Real Madrid and their decision to sign Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea this summer put question marks over Keylor Navas’ future at the club. The Costarican International has been criticized by the fans for his inconsistent performance for the club. While former coach Zidane believed and relied on Navas, it was not the situation with Club President Florentino Perez.

Perez reportedly wanted to replace Navas with some decent options and targetted De Gea from Manchester United before sealing the deal for Thibaut Courtois. The arrival signalled that Courtois would be Real Madrid’s new No.1 goalkeeper, but Lopetegui opted for Navas in their recent two La Liga games this season.

According to former Spain gaffer, there is no guarantee that Courtois would always be preferred ahead of Navas this season. Lopetegui said, “It’s not a situation that’s easy to understand, but it’s simple enough to explain. I’ve got some really good options in goal and there are no problems in that area. We’ll decide what’s best for each game.”

‘Keylor got the nod today and did very well. There’s great competition and that makes us stronger in the goalkeeping department. I’ve got some thoughts in my mind, but I’m not going to share them. Over the course of the season, I’ll look for solutions to solve the next immediate challenge.’ added the coach.

Real Madrid thrashed Girona 4-1 in their recent fixture as Sergio Ramos, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema got on the scoresheet for Real Madrid. They will be hoping to continue their fine performance in their next game as they face Leganes on Sunday.

Author’s Take

Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui, who got sacked from his Spain coaching role on the eve of the FIFA World Cup tournament, will have to happy both Navas and Courtois – two incredibly talented World-Class goalkeepers – this season. While Courtois’ performance for Chelsea and Belgium stands a testament for his ability, Navas has been with Real Madrid for years and has pulled off some remarkable saves over the years. It is going to be difficult for Sarri to choose one and it remains to be seen who he would go for.
