The agreement has been reached between I-League side Minerva Punjab and Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach.
I-League reigning champions Minerva Punjab has agreed to tie-up with German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach which is being regarded as historical move by the Indian club. The collaboration has been made for all the football activities but predominately, main focus will be on youth development.
Reports state that all the formalities have been completed and the official announcement is expected very soon.
Minerva Punjab has been famously known for their immense youth academy and this collaboration, for the youth academy, with the Bundesliga club has an immense significance.
Borussia Monchengladbach has nurtured some of the best youth talents in and has metamorphosed them into fully fledged first team payers.
The most high-profile youth product from their academy is Barcelona’s goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter-Stegen, the goalkeeper who plays at Barcelona.
Moreover, former Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes was also a Borussia Monchengladbach academy product.
Speaking to the media, Minerva Punjab owner Ranjit Bajaj insisted that Minerva Punjab – Borussia Monchengladbach tie up is the first of its kind in Indian football.
“We are the first team from India to tie-up with Borussia Monchengladbach. But the most interesting thing is we don’t have to pay money for this. In most of the tie-ups, the Indian clubs have to pay a franchise fee or something like that. We are happy with this collaboration,”
“Borussia are very old German club. They are doing exactly what we are doing – youth development. They got interested in us because of our youth development. They develop their own academy players and play them in their first team. We do the same.”
“They want to do something right from the grassroots. They want to exchange players from the junior level. Also, our senior team players will also get the advice and help from the senior level coaches. Then when India’s ranking goes up to 70 and they can sign Indian players for their senior level,”
Minerva Punjab’s this partnership with Borussia Monchengladbach is getting hailed as a revolutionary step in history of Indian football and thus has excited the fans all over the country.
