According to recent reports, it has now been stated by the sporting director of VfL Wolfsburg, Klaus Allofs, that Borussia Dortmund are looking to sign winger Andre Schurrle. The 25-year-old German international left Chelsea and moved back to his native country, for £22m back in February 2015. Since then, he has played 63 times for the club so far.
It was recently confirmed that Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan joined English outfit Manchester United, meaning that the Bundesliga giants were looking to reinforce their squad with his departure.
The club’s coach Thomas Tuchel is keen on a reunion with the former Mainz attacker at the Signal Iduna Park, as he looks to sign more players now, after some of his top stars left this summer.
The German international refused to have talks with during the course of the Euro 2016 tournament, though Allofs still has faith that Dortmund’s will to sign him, will help the club push through a deal soon.
In an interview with WAZ, he stated “It’s clear that Dortmund’s interest in Schurrle is related to his past with Tuchel. We want to hold on to Andre and qualify for the Champions League again with him.”
“But we obviously have to look at the economical side of things as well. Although we do not have to sell. It’s not true that we have to sell players to balance the books. We need a good team.”
“I cannot say anything about whether Dortmund have already made an offer.”
The former Blues’ star scored a netted nine times in the league last term and has a current deal with Wolfsburg, which expires in June 2019.
