To honour the emperors of the Tamil empire, the Chennai franchise gave the team the name Chennai Super Kings. Particularly in Tamil Nadu, southern India frequently uses the word “super.” The team’s name is also derived from the “Coromandel King” brand of India Cements.
The team name is depicted in blue beside an orange roaring lion’s head on the logo. The crown that appears above the team name is the same one that appears in the Coromandel King brand logo. Since the lion is the ruler of the jungle, the roaring lion logo, in the opinion of the logo designers[citation needed], reflects the team name. The logo’s elements represent a number of characteristics, including vitality, youth, a commitment to excellence, and a fiery attitude.
The team’s anthem is “Whistle Podu,” a composition by Aravind-Shankar (duo of Aravind Murali and Jaishankar Iyer). Even though the song was initially made for YouTube in 2008, it got famous throughout the 2009 campaign and eventually became the team’s anthem. The street dance known as dappangutthu, which is particularly popular among some communities in Tamil Nadu, is depicted in the song’s music video. Tamil movie also uses this style of music and dancing. In the song video, whistling by some Super Kings players was captured on tape.

The Super Kings had a difficult first half of the 2010 regular season, winning only two of seven games. The performances of Murali Vijay and Suresh Raina helped them win four of their following five games of the season. In the championship game, the Super Kings hosted the tournament favorite Mumbai Indians. [26] The Super Kings recovered from 68/3 after 12 overs to 168/5 at the end of their 20 overs because to Suresh Raina’s 57 (35) runs. In order to help the Super Kings win the game by 22 runs and capture their first ever IPL title, their spin pair of Ravichandran Ashwin and Muralitharan only allowed 41 runs to be scored in the 8 overs they combined to bowl.
The IPL Governing Council announced in 2011 that each club could keep a maximum of four players from their squad, only three of whom could be Indian players, and that the other international players would be placed up for auction. They again met the same opponents in the championship game, which was played at their home field, Chepauk Stadium. A 133-run first-wicket stand between Vijay and Hussey enabled the Super Kings to post a score of 205/5. Then, their bowlers held Bangalore to just 147, leading the Super Kings to their second straight IPL championship. Due to his 95-run innings, which won the match, Vijay was named Man of the Match.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina, and Ravindra Jadeja remained with Chennai Super Kings before to the player mega auction. RTM was also used to reintegrate Faf du Plessis and Dwayne Bravo into the team. After that, Chennai won consecutive games against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first qualifier and the championship to win the Indian Premier League for the third time overall. For his 117* off 57 balls, star all-arounder Shane Watson was named Man of the Match.
Cheteshwar Pujara, a Test specialist, was acquired by CSK for a base price of Rs 50 lakh during the 2021 auctions, while Krishnappa Gowtham cost a staggering Rs 9.25 crore, making him the most expensive uncapped Indian purchase ever. Additionally, they paid Rs 7 crore to get English all-rounder Moeen Ali. CSK defeated Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 1 to advance quickly to the finals for the ninth time in their history. To win their fourth IPL championship, CSK put on an all-around performance versus KKR in the finals.
The CSK team will compete under the direction of Ben Stokes and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, according to the IPL 2023 auction players list.
Since the first season of the Indian Premier League in 2018, India Cements had previously owned the franchise. However, after ten years, Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited took over as the team’s new owner.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, Ambati Rayudu, Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Kyle Jamieson, Maheesh Theekshana, Mukesh Choudhary.
As a result, CSK cricket limited will still be recognized as owning the lone CSK team in the IPL in 2022. Still involved in the CSK management team, Srinivasan.
