Premier League giants Liverpool have confirmed that nine players will be leaving the club in the upcoming summer transfer window as Jurgen Klopp looks to downsize and become more slightly more efficient in order to grow stronger.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has led his side to an extraordinary season this term as they won the Champions League in Madrid after beating Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final. The Merseyside club also enjoyed their best-ever campaign in the English Premier League ever since the club was formed back in 1892 as they earned 97 points. However, quite surprisingly, that was still not enough to ensure the Premiership as they finished just one solitary point behind eventual champions Manchester City.
However, the European Cup returned to Anfield for the sixth time in their illustrious club history. But Klopp is still keen on dethroning Manchester City in order to end the Reds’ 30-year long wait to win the crown of English football. In order to achieve the feat; he may have to offload a few players that are tying the club down or purchase adequately in the summer transfer window to bolster his team.
The German confirmed earlier this season that Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno will be departing the club as the duo will not be given contract extensions as their current ones expire this summer. And now Liverpool have released a statement on their official club website which has seven more names added to the list that contains Sturridge and Moreno, with six academy graduates and shot-stopper Adam Bogdan prepared to leave the club, “Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge are set to leave the Reds upon the expiry of their contracts this summer having helped the club clinch its sixth European Cup.
“Academy graduate Connor Randall, who made eight senior appearances under Jurgen Klopp, and goalkeeper Adam Bogdan, who played six games for the first team, will depart ahead of 2019-20 too. Academy players Juanma, Conor Masterson, Glen McAuley, Corey Whelan, and Ben Williams are also set to leave the club.”
Liverpool also added that five players have been given the option to extend their contracts as they thanked the departing players for their contributions, ”Contract offers have been made to Bobby Adekanye, Daniel Atherton, George Johnston, Abdi Sharif, and Edvard Tagseth. Everybody at Liverpool FC thanks the departing players for their contributions and wishes them the best of luck for the future.”
Liverpool looks like they are really trying their best to become the best possible version of themselves. They certainly look like contenders to dethrone Manchester City and win the Premiership in the upcoming season.
