Antonio Conte’s side faced Burnley at Stamford Bridge in their third game of the season, having won their first 2 games late in the injury time, Chelsea needed a performance to showcase their prowess and challenge for the title. The visitors had made a mixed start to their season before facing Chelsea, winning 1 and losing 1 in their first 2 games. A 2-0 win at home against Liverpool was a testament to the rest of the league that they should be taken seriously.
On the Saturday night Chelsea played with the same squad as their last match, in a 4-2-3-1 formation and dominated the game from the start. Eden Hazard opened up the scoring for Blues in the 9th minute and looked menacing throughout the game. Just before the halftime, Willian doubled the lead for Chelsea to give them a comfortable cushion going into the break.
Burnley looked very vulnerable and the scoreline could have been far more worse for them, they made some changes at halftime to get back into the game but we’re completely shut down by Chelsea and again in the 81st minute substitute Moses scored a 3rd to put Chelsea on top of the table as the match ended 3-0.
We look at the player ratings of Chelsea for this game –
Thibaut Courtois- 6/10
Nothing more than cheerleader on the pitch, had absolutely nothing to do. Distributed the ball well and looked to release a attack every time the ball was played back to him.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 6/10
Made some great runs going forward and supported Hazard very well but that final ball was lacking from him.
John Terry – 7/10
Leader. Marshalled his troops really well, and was equally solid in defense. Could have scored in the second half on a rebound shot from Hazard.
Gary Cahill – 7/10
Solid performance once again, partnered Terry well and kept the ball playing really well from the back.
Branislav Ivanovic – 7/10
He had one of his best games of the recent past. Was a threat down his flank, whipped in some great crosses and also made runs into the box.
N’Golo Kante – 6/10
Tireless engine for Blues. Did his job really well and broke down every Burnley opportunity to attack.
Oscar – 6/10
He was well in defense and made some good runs with the ball toying with Burnley defense, created a few chances too.
Willian – 8/10
Again a great game from the Brazilian, slick passing and great movement from him absolutely destroyed opposition defense. Also scored Chelsea 2nd goal.
Eden Hazard – 8/10
Chelsea’s best player on the pitch, again. He created some great chances and his dancing feets created all sorts of problems for Burnley, also scored the first goal.
Diego Costa – 6/10
Not his best of games but he complemented Hazard and Willian well. Had some great scoring chances but failed to convert any.
Victor Moses – 6/10
Scored the second goal, attacked well.
Pedro – 5/10
Did well with the cross to set up Moses for his goal.
Michy Batshuayi – 5/10
Some decent touches, came too late to affect the game.
