West Ham midfielder Declan Rice has been a center of attraction lately. The young defensive midfielder has been at the top of his game. Earning much-needed attention from various clubs. However, Manchester United and Chelsea have been keeping close tabs on the Englishman.
Both Ole and Frank have had trouble reinforcing their midfield on the counters. Declan Rice is the kind of player that can resolve the issue for them. Hence both United and Chelsea have been keeping a close watch on his developments for a while now. However, Declan Rice seems to be keener to make a return back to Chelsea.
According to a recent report, Rice’s friend revealed that he would choose to stay at London than to leave for Manchester. This will shatter United’s dreams to bring in the midfield ace. But it will hand Frank Lampard an edge to seal the deal. Chelsea are hoping to sign Declan Rice in the summer of 2021, according to The Mirror.
West Ham however are not too keen to lose their star. And they are demanding a mouthwatering £80m for Declan. Chelsea has already spent a lot in the summer, splashing £250m to bring in new recruits. Hence, they will look to ease down on the price tag before they make a solid move. But West Ham are likely to stick to their price until the player urges them to release him.
West Ham must tie him down
Tony Cottee, the former West Ham striker feels that the club must tie down their ace. Cottee was a club hero during his time there and wants to see West Ham rise up in the league. He feels the Hammers are doing well under David Moyes and Rice is an integral part of the squad. But they are risking both their trump cards at the moment. David Moyes is nearing the end of his contract and Declan has several strong interests from the top of the table.
Tony is urging the board to act instantly and sign a new deal with Moyes. This will help them to maintain their ascend up in the Premier League. Cottee also feels the Hammers must make Dec the captain of the team and sign a new long-term contract with him. Mark Noble is the current captain of the squad, but he is nearly at the end of his prime. Hence, Declan Rice is the best fit to take up the role, according to Tony Cottee.
The club hero’s statements do make sense, as David Moyes has been key to West Ham’s growth in recent years. Moyes has been building a strong squad for the Hammers since his arrival. Helping the Hammers become a permanent name in the PL top ten. Letting go of David Moyes at this stage will leave his plans midway. This will also give Declan Rice more reason to leave West Ham.
Hence, the club must take things seriously and act fast. With the likes of Chelsea and United prying to swoop in the youngster. West Ham must tie him down with a long-term deal if they don’t want to lose their ace. Also, they must offer a raise for the youngster to hold him down.
Declan has a tactical advantage
The main reason United and Chelsea eye Declan is his versatility. Rice is naturally seen playing as a defensive midfielder at West Ham. He can play equally well as a centre-back as well. This is a unique quality for the player and having him in the squad will be key for both sides. Hence their repeated keenness to sign the youngster.
Declan’s versatility is key when it comes to rotation and injury concerns. Rice can take up the role of centre-back if the club has a shortage of defenders. Having such a player will guarantee more backup for the defence. Rice is also great in midfield and allows his side to have more control at center. Both Liverpool and Manchester City possess Fabinho and Fernandinho who can swap between a DMF and a CB similarly. This gives them an edge over the opposition, Chelsea and United are also hoping to bring in a similar game.
Chelsea was the boyhood side of Declan Rice before he left them when he was 14. Hence the midfielder feels he must make a return to show the growth of his game to the Blues. Signing the youngster will give Chelsea the ideal replacement for N’Golo Kante who is nearing the twilight of his career. Another reason for Rice to play at Chelsea is Mason Mount. The duo are good friends and Rice likes the idea of playing alongside Mount.
Also, Frank Lampard is a childhood hero to Declan Rice. Playing under the management of Frank will be a dream come true. Frank is currently risking his job at Stamford Bridge after a series of disappointing results, but Chelsea may opt to give him more time. The Blues are hoping to cash in on some of their deadweights this window to muster up funds for the summer. Chelsea are keen to sign the midfielder at the end of the season.
