Chelsea announces Jersey number for 1st two signings of the season on 29th August 2020 during the first pre-season match.
Chelsea first two signings of this summer transfer window Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner recently allocated with Jersey numbers. However, they joined Chelsea with a transfer fee of almost £81m in total.
Hakim Ziyech played last season for Ajax and joined Chelsea with the transfer fee of £33.4m in this summer transfer window. Previously, he played with a number 22 in Ajax. So fans were excited to see which number does he wear at Stamford Bridge.
Along with Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner joined him at Chelsea from RB Leipzig with the transfer fee of £47.5m in this transfer window. He wore number 11 at RB Leipzig but many were eagerly waiting for which number Chelsea is going to allocate him.
Because both of them started training without having a number on their jersey at Cobham. But the wait of players including fans comes to an end before the pre-season match against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Stamford Bridge side declared the numbers for both of them via twitter handle a few minutes before the match. As a result, both of them allocated the same number which they were wearing at the previous club i.e number 22 for Ziyech and number 11 for Werner.
Who will wear number 10 jersey, Pulisic or Kai Havertz?
After announcing 11 & 22 for Werner and Ziyech fans are in a dilemma whether number 10 is kept behind for Pulisic or else Kai Havertz is arriving at Stamford Bridge. Because number 10 is vacant in Chelsea after Willian’s departure to North London. Therefore, Many of the fans excited to see Pulisic wearing a number 10 jersey for next season.
They reacted hilariously on Chelsea’s twitter post for number 10. Some of them guess and said that Christian Pulisic will wear number 10. While others expecting the arrival of Kai Havertz at Stamford Bridge for 2020-21 season. Because Chelsea is very close to complete his deal with RB Leipzig.
Other vacant numbers in Chelsea squad
According to Football London reports, number 25 is vacant in the Chelsea squad since 2003. In the last, this number was worn by the Gianfranco Zola and it seems like Chelsea didn’t want to assign this number to any other player.
Similar to Gianfranco Zola’s number 25, number 26 also remains as vacant in the name of John Terry due to his trophy-laden with Chelsea since his arrival at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s centre-back Andreas Christensen was wearing the number 27. But now he moved to have number 4 on his jersey. So this number 27 became available at Chelsea’s squad.
This number is available at Chelsea after David Luiz’s departure to the arch-rivals North London side. Whereas, this number is also known as squad number because it was worn by the Jesper Gronjkaer, Tiago & Yossi Benayoun.
Since 2016 after the exit of Marco Amelia’s number 32 remains available as an option to newly arrived players. Current number 4 Andreas Christensen wore it in the 2012/13 season.
