This year’s transfer window will probably be the building block for the Chelsea squad. The signings they have made in the summer will serve in the long run for the club. Many of the players are young and have their best years ahead of them.
Chelsea had already recruited Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech. They added 6 more players in this window and had a 200 million + acquisition. Havertz, Werner, Chilwell, Mendy are all very young and are locking down positions in the squad.
Whereas Silva has added experience to the team. No wonder the Blues are in a very strong position at the start of the season. Frank Lampard is a smart guy and with the resources, in his hands, he can achieve a lot with this team.
However, the transition is still not complete. There are some players who might exit the club. Central midfield is one area that is not yet settled. Chelsea are still looking to tweak things and add another element to their midfield.
With chances of Jorginho leaving the club Chelsea are looking to add Declan Rice to the squad. Rice has become a long term target for Frank Lampard as Chelsea tried to sign him this summer too.
But West Ham knows how crucial Rice is to their whole squad. They aren’t much interested in selling him and had slapped a price tag of 80 million for his services. With all the spending Chelsea has already done another big-money signing could prove out to be difficult.
Pep Guardiola has heaped praise for West Ham’s Declan Rice
Declan Rice is someone who attracts a lot of attention in the Premier League. Rice has been a constant performer for West ham United. He has won the Hammers young player of the season award.
Under Mark Noble’s guidance, he is developing into a real anchor for any midfield. Chelsea are very keen on reuniting the player with the club. He was a part of the Chelsea academy as a kid and is friends with Mason Mount.
But he was let go by Chelsea which was not one of their better decisions. Rice has been excellent at the start of the season. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola also believes he has a bright future ahead.
This was his statement as per reports from football London. “Declan Rice is an excellent young player and he will be a top English player for many years to come.”
With someone like Guardiola issuing this verdict, Lampard will certainly is keen to add Rice to the team. But there are certain hurdles in Chelsea’s way. Firstly the price tag for Rice can be too high for the Blues to pay.
Especially after all the signings, they have already made. Another problem will be where will Rice fit in the team. With the likes of Kante and Kovacic in the squad, it would be difficult to give regular game time to Rice. Whereas in West Ham Rice has become a crucial part of the system and he will expect no less from Chelsea’s offering.
