Chelsea Board Handed a Lifeline to Lampard Due to Manchester United and Arsenal

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is going through a major sack pressure as his side failed to improve their current poor run of form in the Premier League. Lampard is at risk of losing his job as a manager after failing to meet the expectations of club owner Roman Abramovich. However, an extended period is handed to the former Blues midfielder.

Roman Abramovich is understood to be furious at Lampard and could soon sack the current Chelsea boss. Following the Blues 2-0 Premier League defeat to Leicester City on Tuesday night. This in turn has risked the parting of ways for Lampard. The last defeat to Leicester was their sixth loss in the Premier League as they sit in the eighth position in the table.

Lampard entered the League in this campaign so as to challenge for the title. He was heavily backed by the Chelsea hierarchy for over £200 million in the summer transfer window. Thus Chelsea actively participated in the summer transfer window and helped the club to bring several big talents. Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech, and Kai Havertz were some big names.

When the club was given such a huge investment. The board automatically expects the immediate outcome of the price paid. Even though a huge pressure was placed on Lampard when the 2020-21 campaign began. But Chelsea were inconsistent in their form so far in the season.

Managers who could take over the job for Chelsea:

Lampard Sacking news

When it comes to hiring another manager for the hot seat at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea chairman does not hold enough patience when it comes to poor results with the manager. His patience has been tested before but the Russian was quick enough to remove the unfit manager from the squad.

This approach of Abramovich has seen around 14 faces leaving the Stamford helm in only 17 years of his tenure. Even though Lampard is most loved by the fans and the Chelsea board because of his successful spell as a midfielder. However, the chairman doesn’t favour the sentiments over results.

A number of names are placed on the target list in case Chelsea look for hiring an interim manager in the future. Sky Sports claim Massimiliano Allegri and Thomas Tuchel, who are currently out of work, are interested in working for Chelsea. Moreover, the club itself revealed their fondness for RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann as his No 1 choice.

But the idea of passing a job to another manager has been placed on hold. After several Premier League managers have turned around the fate of their respective clubs. For an instance the current League leaders Manchester United and the 10th placed Arsenal. These clubs were not even in the top ten back in the past.

The strong calls of sacking were made for Ole Gunner Solskjaer and Mikel Arteta when United and Arsenal both were just few points above the relegation zone. The Norwegian successfully bring back the charm of United. The Red Devils currently lead the table with 40 points. Manchester City, Leicester and Liverpool are placed behind them.

Meanwhile, the case is similar for Arsenal who is risen to 10th position in the domestic league. Mikel Arteta’s side is just two points behind the eighth placed Chelsea. The Spaniard has turned around the things for Arsenal since they’re close to Chelsea.

Sky Sports claim that the following results of the above two clubs have convinced Chelsea to an extemt that the board has decided to grant Lampard the extra time in order to try and improve the performance for Chelsea. Else has it been the decision of only the Chairman of the club the Blues might be injected with a new manager.

But Lampard doesn’t have countless chances to improve. The board wants the immediate result and any failure in the coming three matches with Luton Town, Wolves or Burnley might mark the end to Lampard’s tenure at Stamford Bridge.
