Chelsea is considering a move for Barcelona forward Denis Suarez as they target replacements for Michy Batshuayi.
The 24-year-old Barcelona star has been used sparing this season by the La Liga side, but despite that, he’s managed to produce and create six assists for in just 16 appearances. However, with Philippe Coutinho’s arrival, it looks like Denis Suarez’s time at Barcelona is coming to an end. Meanwhile, with Chelsea looking a replacement for the departing Michy Batshuayi the 24-year-old is at the top of their shortlist.
While Suarez won’t be a like-for-like replacement, his past and goal-scoring history make him a brilliant replacement for the departing Belgian. With Batshuayi looking to secure his place in the national team in time for the World Cup, and Alvaro Morata, Eden Hazard and even Pedro the preferred by Antonio Conte, the Belgian will have to go on loan to get more game-time.
However, despite that Chelsea won’t let Batshuayi leave unless a replacement can be brought in and they’ve shortlisted Barcelona’s, Denis Suarez. According to Ian McGarry a journalist and transfer expert, “Chelsea have been looking to add more firepower since the summer window. Antonio Conte was prepared to give Michy Batshuayi a chance to prove himself but that’s proven not to have worked out. If Batshuayi wants to leave in order to prove himself for a place in Belgium’s squad at the World Cup, then that would happen, as long as Chelsea can get someone in.
What they haven’t found in a natural goalscoring striker and instead have turned their attention to a Barcelona player who is available for transfer – Denis Suarez. He’s very much in the mould of Barcelona’ current attacking midfielders such as Willian, Pedro and Eden Hazard – not an out-and-out striker but certainly someone who can get goals.”

While he struggled to make an impression at either Celta Vigo or even Sevilla, it was at Villarreal that Denis Suarez really showed how good he is. The 24-year-old showed his creative skills coming in off the flanks, enjoyed an incredible run of form and end product and played an important part in the team’s run to the Europa League semi-finals.
McGarry further added, “He’s a player they (Barcelona) let go with a buy-back clause and because he was playing so well in La Liga they did buy him back. He made an instant impression but has since fallen out of favour and is available for transfer.
Denis Suarez is a technically gifted, creative and has the potential to become a great playmaker, but for him to replace Michy Batshuayi, an out-and-out striker will be a little hard. However, despite that, his arrival at Chelsea will certainly shake things up for the Blues.
