Chelsea re-enters the race to sign Serie A star with the Blues looking to bring in reinforcements during the summer transfer window.
The reigning Premier League Champions have struggled this season, with Chelsea star David Luiz falling out with manager Antonio Conte. However, Antonio Rudiger hasn’t impressed the Chelsea boss so far, with the former Juventus boss looking towards his old league to bring in defensive reinforcements.
According to reports from Italian news outlet Corriere Dello Sport, the Blues have re-entered the race for Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly. The 26-year-old was linked with a move to the Premier League during the summer transfer window, with both Arsenal and Chelsea very interested but a move never materialized. However, instead, Kalidou Koulibaly stayed in Naples with Napoli and decided to help them try and win their first league title since the 1989/90 season.
While this has won Koulibaly plaudits in Naples, on the other hand, he has earned a reputation as Serie A’s most accomplished defenders despite a rocky start to his Italian football career. The 26-year-old arrived at Napoli during in May 2014 but soon established his place in the line-up.
He’s won an average of 2.07 headed duels in 28 games during the 2016/17 season and made nearly 2.3 interceptions a game. It’s not just his defensive abilities but Koulibaly boasts an average pass completion of just under 90%, which is down-right impressive given Napoli’s free-flowing attacking style of play.
However, despite the report from Corriere Dello Sport, the Senegalese’s agent had a lot to say about the rumors early in 2018, going on to say “Important players can receive offers, but at the moment he’s a Napoli player and they can also reject them. Every day you can read about interested clubs, in terms of rumours you in Italy are top of the world
“It’s nonsense, and you don’t only do it with Kalidou. There’s a healthy working relationship with Napoli. I always talk with [other big] clubs, but about all of my clients, not just Kalidou. I do my job. Big clubs are looking for great players, and Napoli have a lot of good, in-demand players,” ,” said Koulibaly’s agent Bruno Satin.
While Kalidou Koulibaly is a brilliant reader of the game and is tactically aware, the 26-year-old also happens to be a very good passer of the ball. This combined with his strength and defensive prowess makes him perfect for the Premier League and perfect for any one of the three clubs after his services.
