The Italian has come under intense scrutiny after a series of disappointing results in charge at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea fans loved his reply about his future.
Chelsea are going through tough time. What started as a wonderful season for them is now turning out to be a bad one. Chelsea have only scored once in their last three Premier Leagues. They are yet to register their first away Premier League win in 2019. After their 6-0 humiliating defeat by Manchester City there was an inquest held by Chelsea. With pressure of delivering victories increasing on Sarri, FIFA ban and rumors of Zidane replacing Sarri, it seemed like Carabao Cup final could have been the final game of Sarri. Chelsea fans loved when Sarri answered question about his future following Spurs victory.
Maurizio Sarri laughed off any speculation about his future after watching his side beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 on Wednesday. The Italian’s decision to drop goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was vindicated by the win over their London rivals which strengthens his position as head coach. Heavy defeats to Bournemouth and Arsenal, coupled with the Blues fans’ vitriolic abuse of Sarri’s methods, put the 60-year-old in a precarious predicament. They were reports of Chelsea players are mentally fatigued by Maurizio Sarri’s regime, with his over-detailed training sessions. Sarri was also directly aksed by one senior player whether N’Golo Kante can return to his usual holding role to add more defensive stability. However, Sunday’s close defeat meant Sarri was handed a help line. The 4-3 penalty shootout loss was overshadowed by Kepa’s refusal to be substituted, resulting in the world’s most expensive goalkeeper dropping to the bench in Wednesday’s win over Tottenham.
And when asked by The Sun’s Andy Dillon about his future, Sarri simply replied: “How is your future? Is the Sun happy with you or not?” The result leaves Chelsea in sixth in the league, two points off Manchester United but with a game in hand. When asked about his future he replied, “I am not worried. I am sleeping well. I slept two hours today as well, I am serene and I think what I am reading is not true. At least they are telling me that it’s not true and I trust them.”
