Chelsea forward close to joining Inter Milan

Giroud

Antonio Conte has changed the face of Inter Milan since his appointment in 2019. He has built an experienced squad after the departure of Maruo Icardi on loan. Meanwhile, Frank Lampard has been putting up a fight with a young squad full of passionate players. His preference for Tammy Abraham and Mitchi Batshuayi over Olivier Giroud has sparked transfer rumors about the Frenchman’s exit.

According to Sky Italia, Chelsea and Inter have reached an agreement for the transfer of Olivier Giroud. A fee of 5.5 million pounds has been finalized. The French striker is set to have his medical with the Italian club this week.

It was earlier reported that the blues were demanding a fee of 8 million pounds for Giroud who arrived at the Stanford Bridge as a part of a three-way swap deal between Chelsea, Arsenal, and Borussia Dortmund. But now, it seems like nothing will be able to stop the Frenchman from moving out.

Giroud will face tough competition from Lukaku and Martinez

Giroud

Since the arrival of Frank Lampard as a manger, Olivier Giroud has been out of favor. At the moment, he is the third-choice striker for the blues. The 33-year-old forward has made just seven appearances in all competitions so far. It’s quite clear that the Frenchman would be keen to find another destination for himself at this stage of his career.

The fact that Inter Milan already have quality strikers like Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez makes Giroud’s decision sound very strange. The Frenchman will face tough competition from Lukaku who has been in exceptional form lately. Moreover, Martinez has been labeled as one of the most talented and promising young strikers in Europe right now. Barcelona has been keen for his signature since the summer of 2019.

We have every reason to believe that the presence of Antonio Conte at Inter inspired Giroud to make this decision. Conte had a major hand in the Frenchman’s move from Arsenal to Chelsea on the last day of January Transfer window in 2018. In spite of tough competition for a place in the starting XI, Giroud may find his touch at the Italian club.
