Chelsea might be able to get Marco Asensio if Zinedine Zidane moves to bring Eden Hazard to the Santiago Bernabeu
Zidane’s reluctance to give Marco Asensio a consistent run in the first eleven might rob Real Madrid of one of the finest gems in world football. With Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema struggling for form and/or fitness, Asensio still hasn’t received his chances. Consequently, it seems that Asensio is fed up of sitting on the bench while Madrid struggles to score goals this season. Diario Gol is reporting that Chelsea could be Asensio’s probable destination should he leave Madrid.
Chelsea’s chances of signing Asensio depend squarely on Eden Hazard. Their star man is a known admirer of Zinedine Zidane and could be on his way to the Bernabeu. The Spaniard would have no problem in being included in any sort of deal for Hazard.
The 21-year-old has struggled for game time despite starting the season with a series of ”other-worldly” goals including one against Barcelona in the Super Copa. Anyhow, the player feels that he has done nothing wrong. The report also says that Zidane’s presence will also be a big factor in Asensio’s eventual decision. If the Frenchman is still managing Madrid after the end of the summer, then chances of Asensio staying decrease considerably.
Rumblings coming out of the Madrid dressing room have suggested that Zidane and Asensio do not share the best of relationships
Asensio’s compatriot and former Real teammate, Alvaro Morata will be waiting for him with open arms at Chelsea. Morata left the Bernabeu under similar circumstances. Despite being a regular goalscorer his game time came in bits and pieces with Zidane preferring the BBC in high-profile games. In fact, the striker is encouraging Chelsea hierarchy to pursue the Real Madrid starlet aggressively.
Manchester United are also reportedly interested in the 21-year-old. However, their stance could change after the Alexis Sanchez deal
Asensio is a mercurial talent. I truly believe he will be among the front-runners for the Ballon d’Or in the next few years. But that will only happen if his growth continues and he is given regular game time. Seeing as how that is not happening right now, a move could be on the cards. However, it is still too early for the youngster to give up on Real Madrid and the club would be foolish to let him go, even if they are getting Eden Hazard in return. As far as Chelsea are concerned, they might not even entertain any idea that involves Hazard leaving Stamford Bridge.
