Chelsea looking to HIJACK Barcelona’s deal for French midfield maestro

  • Chelsea have established contact with French midfielder whose move to Barcelona in the summer had been all but confirmed yet.

Chelsea’s midfield metronome Cesc Fabregas moved to Monaco on a long-term deal this week. The Blues have since stepped up their search for a new midfielder. A man talented enough to not only fill the Fabregas shaped hole in the midfield but also add another dimension to much to Sarri’s suiting. The Chelsea boss did not want Fabregas to leave but the Spaniard was not willing to play second fiddle to Jorginho. Consequently, the Blues have been forced to speed up their chase for a new midfielder.

Nicolo Barella and Leandro Paredes have been heavily linked with a move to the Stamford Bridge. But a transfer for either of the youngsters is not going according to plan with an actual yet to have been made. Chelsea, it seems, have now turned their sights to another high-profile player. Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrien Rabiot has been apparently contacted by Chelsea over a possible move.  French publication L’Equipe claims that Chelsea see Rabiot as an alternative to first-choice Barella.

Chelsea, however, it seems have left it too late. Reports earlier claimed that Rabiot has already agreed on a move to Barcelona in the summer. Spanish football expert Guillem Balague revealed that wages in the region of €10 million have been agreed between the player and the club. At the same time, he believes that Barca will be extremely careful until everything has been made official. The Catalans don’t want a repeat of the Griezmann saga.

Even if Barca do miss out on the 23-year-old, other European heavyweights in Bayern Munich and Juventus are keeping tabs on Rabiot’s situation in the French capital.

Author’s Take

Chelsea can do with a player of Rabiot’s qualities. However, the Blues will find it extremely difficult to lure the Frenchman to West London. Barcelona, Juve and Bayern are all in the frame and Blues will be better off focusing elsewhere.
