The player said he will be leaving the club if they fail to qualify for Champions League.
Chelsea are in a dire need of more attacking firepower. The fact that they had to go with a false nine formation and leaving out Morata of the 18 man squad tells you how much firepower they need in the final third. With the likes of Higuain and Pulisic constantly being linked with Chelsea, it seems the West London club are keeping close tabs on this World Cup winner as he edges near an exit.
Chelsea regularly watching Florian Thauvin as winger considers Marseille exit. Thauvin had a disastrous spell in England with Newcastle United. The Frenchman made only 16 appearances. However, the 25-year-old has managed to rebuild his career after returning to Marseille. The Frenchman has become Marseille’s talisman.
Thauvin bagged 33 goals in 50 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit. He was selected in Didier Deschamps’ squad which went on to win the World Cup in the summer. Thauvin admitted earlier this season that he will consider leaving Marseille if they fail to qualify for the Champions League and several clubs have been alerted to the situation.
According to France Football, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid have all been watching the forward this term. Thauvin, who is tied into a contract at Marseille until the summer of 2021, is valued at around £41m. The France international insists he will take time to consider his options following a difficult time at Newcastle.
He told L’Equipe in May, “I’m hungry for titles, that’s what remains at the end of your career. As for other championships, Spain makes me dream and I like Germany a lot because it could be good for my game, but I’m not thinking about my future. I will take the time to think about it, but I’m good here.”
It will interesting to see whether Chelsea will be keen to lure him or Dembele. Given Chelsea’s priority of signing a striker first, a signing of a winger would be subtle hint that it’s Hazard’s replacement. Chelsea at this moment should look for a striker as they are lacking goal scoring players.
