Chelsea are preparing to launch a £45m bid for Cagliari star Nicolo Barella and Jorginho reportedly could be the key to complete this deal.
The Italian star is being watched by a number of European giants at present, including Inter Milan and Napoli. But a report from Alfredo Pedulla suggests Chelsea are the closest side to landing Barella. The Blues are already preparing a £45m offer to land the midfielder in the summer – and it appears Maurizio Sarri may have the upper hand when it comes to landing Barella ahead of other potential suitors.
Speaking after earning his first Italy cap earlier this season, the youngster praised Chelsea midfielder Jorginho. “It’s an honour to wear the blue shirt, to be part of a group with many well-known champions, to train with people like Chiellini, Bonucci, Verrati, Jorginho,” he told La Nuova Sardegna. “It is a privilege, you can only listen and learn from them.”

But Barella admits he is not listening to talk about his future or a move away from Cagliari. “I have never given too much weight to compliments or criticism, I am not impervious, but I know that in this world nobody gives you anything,” he added. “If there are clubs interested in me it means that I am doing my job well.
“The supporters? They say that they are very proud of my daughter, she is beautiful. I understand that they love me, I feel like everybody’s son, it’s a really nice feeling. I do not look at the money. If I change team in the future it will not be for the money, I will do it for ambition.”
“My future? At this moment I have no idea of what will happen.” The Blues have already been busy so far this window, signing Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund. The attacker has been loaned back to the Bundesliga outfit until the end of the season.
Barella has been compared with Andrea Pirlo a lot but his playing style is much closer to that of Napoli’s Allan. If anything, he only has more goals in his game. However, he is still not a finished product but Sarri has the ability to mould into the next big Italian midfield sensation. A move to a big club beckons, Barella must choose carefully.
