ANTONIO CONTE IS REPORTEDLY LOOKING TO STRENGTHEN HIS SQUAD IN JANUARY TO COPE UP WITH THE DEMANDS OF THE RIGOROUS SEASON
Chelsea has been offered a huge boost in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to reports in the Mirror. The Gabon international is reportedly frustrated with his current club after the breakdown of his relationship with the Bundesliga giants.
A number of clubs are believed to be in the race for the striker but Chelsea looks like serious contenders, thanks to Michy Batshuayi’s injury which leaves them with just a single striker in Alvaro Morata, as they prepare for the second half of the season. Aubameyang has been somewhat of a problem child for Dortmund in recent times but his performances on the pitch have rarely been affected.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is Europe’s most controversial striker
The 28-year-old has managed to score 17 goals in 19 appearances so far this season despite him being in the middle of a lot of criticism and controversy mainly due to his discipline on and off the pitch. The Gabonese hitman’s latest antics came in Dortmund’s astonishing 4-4 draw against rivals Schalke during the weekend.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang got on the score sheet for his side as they took a 4-0 lead at half-time at the Signal Iduna Park. However, the second half witnessed one of the greatest comebacks in European football as Schalke clawed their way back into the game and Aubameyang’s sending off in the 72nd minute, while the scoreline read 4-2, added as a boost for the visitors on a night to remember.

The incident weighed the 28-year old further down in the eyes of the club’s board of directors as this was not the first trace of malice displayed by the player this season. Earlier this month, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was suspended by the club before their game against Stuttgart due to ‘disciplinary issues’. He is also alleged to have taken part in an unauthorized photo shoot and his teammates have reportedly complained about his poor timekeeping.
If the rumors are to be believed, Dortmund manager Peter Bosz has reportedly had enough of the player’s tantrums and is now willing to let him go despite his prolific record in front of goal.
AUTHOR’S TAKE
Antonio Conte had spoken earlier about the challenges he faced this season due to Chelsea’s luck with injuries as well as the added responsibility of doing well in the Champions League and it is no secret that he wants reinforcements in January to cope up with the same. There is a popular saying, “No genius can exist without a little madness” which has been proved in football (take Luis Suarez or Eric Cantona for instance) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could well be another one, considering his ridiculously good ability to find the back of the net.
