Chelsea started the Premier League season on a decent note. Though they raised the bar on some occasions, they haven’t been consistent so far. Frank Lampard’s boys still have a lot of catching up to do to compete with top teams. The Blues are placed fifth in the points table with 25 points.
Lampard’s team are 6 points behind the table-toppers Liverpool and a point below fourth-placed Everton. The Blues managed to win 7 games, played out 4 draws, and lost 3 games so far. Their recent victory came against the Hammers as they scored 3 goals to finish the derby on a good note.
Thiago Silva opened the scoring for the Blues in the 10th minute of the first half. The youngster Tammy Abraham showcased his mettle in the latter stages of the second half. The 23-year-old scored a brace as his goals came in the 78th and 80th minute respectively.
Chelsea was knocked out by Tottenham Hotspur in the Round of 16 games in the EFL competition. Spurs won the penalty shootout as they beat Chelsea by 5-4. Chelsea finished first in Group E points table of the UEFA Champions League.
Lampard’s boys will lock horns with Atletico Madrid in the first leg on February 24, 2021. After that, the Blues will invite Diego Simeone’s boys to Stamford Bridge on March 18.
Chelsea ace Alonso ready for Atletico Madrid switch
Earlier, it was reported that Marcus Alonso is all set for a January switch to Atletico Madrid. Now, the recent reports also suggest that the Chelsea ace is being lined up for a move to the Spanish club.
The Daily Mail claims Chelsea are ready to loan the left-back to Diego Simeone’s side before taking advantage of a permanent deal next summer. The 27-year-old left-back made just starts in the ongoing PL season.
Ever since penning a new long-term £100,000-a-week deal last season, there has been a massive dip in form. Alonso’s exit would make way for a new player to join Chelsea next month as the transfer window looms.
A recent report in El Chiringuito TV claims that the left-back is ready to sign for Atletico Madrid on loan for the remainder of the season. The Chelsea ace has already been excluded from Lampard’s plans after Chilwell’s entry.
The Blues take on the Gunners
After a clinical 3-0 win against West Ham at home, Chelsea will take on the out-of-form Arsenal on Boxing Day. Arsenal managed to win just once in their last 10 games. It has been 5 games since they won a game at home.
Their last victory at the Emirates came against Sheffield United. Chelsea would be licking their lips to rub salt in Gunners’ wounds. The last time when the Blues played against Arsenal at the Emirates, they secured a 2-1 win. It will be quite interesting to see how Arsenal respond after a string of losses this season.
