Chelsea make loan move for Leicester City striker

The Blues have reportedly approached Leicester City for a prospective loan deal for their striker Islam Slimani, in an attempt to add more weapons to the attacking arsenal.

Chelsea is desperate to bolster their attack, with summer signing Alvaro Morata fading away after finding success initially in the season. Conte is speculated to bring over Slimani over to Stamford Bridge on a temporary basis to cure their attacking woes.

Slimani made his way to the King Power Stadium through a record-breaking transfer deal by the Foxes. The Algerian though has not yet lived up to the price after just scoring 8 goals in the Premier League.

Leicester City is reportedly interested in the deal which will result in a decrease in their wage bill, it is also being speculated that the Foxes are looking to offload the striker since they already have Jamie Vardy, Kelechi Iheanacho, Shinji Okazaki and Leonardo Ulloa.

Several teams are on the lookout to sign the Algeria International such as Watford, Newcastle United and Southampton.

The 29-year-old would be eligible to play for the Blues in the Champions League which is essential for Conte as injuries pile up as a result of fixture congestion.

Other viable options for Chelsea

The London side has been linked with several strikers with Antonio Conte making a striker the top priority in the transfer window.

Chelsea were initially linked with West Ham’s Andy Carroll, but the interest has reportedly been dropped as the England International suffered an ankle injury which will keep him out for 4 weeks.

Peter Crouch is also on the shortlist as Conte looks to exploit the experience from the Premier League veteran. AS Roma’s Edin Dzeko is also rumoured to be on Chelsea’s radar with the Bosnian possessing vital Premier League experience and proving his lethal goalscoring touch during his time with Manchester City.

The Serie A giants are however only interested in the deal if they get Michy Batshuayi as a part of the deal. Other names linked to a move to Chelsea are Tottenham’s Fernando Llorente and Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke.

Author’s Take:

Signing Slimani would not be in the right direction for the Blues as the Algerian is yet to show any progress in the Premier League. Off the given options, signing Dzeko would be the most beneficial considering his current form and previous experience.
