Chelsea news: Sevilla defender Jules Kounde is among the most sought-after players in this transfer window.

Kounde has established himself as among the most talented defenders in La Liga since joining the Red-Whites from Bordeaux in the summer transfer window of 2019. He has played 95 league games for the Andalusia-based club so far, scoring five goals.

The 23-year-old defender helped Sevilla win the 2019-20’s UEFA Europa League. He was included in the competition’s Team of the Season for his performances.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea has sent paperwork to conclude Jules Kounde’s transfer from Sevilla. The Blues are waiting for a response from the Spanish side to avoid attempts from Barcelona to hijack the deal.

The London-based club is willing to pay a transfer fee of close to £55 million to bring the French defender to the club. As per an aforementioned report by Romano, Kounde will sign a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

After a successful tenure under Roman Abramovich, the Blues have entered a new era under new owner Todd Boehly.

If Kounde’s deal does go through, Kounde will become the Blues’ fifth signing of the transfer window after Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Eddie Beach, and Omari Hutchinson.
