Chelsea news: Premier League club Chelsea faced an unfortunate injury against Juventus in the UEFA Champions League. Although the club won emphatically by four goals to nil, the shine was taken off with Ben Chilwell’s injury.

The English left-back who has been in quite sensational form this season suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL tear) injury. He had to be substituted at the 70th-minute mark after suffering the knock.

However, at that time it didn’t seem it was anything serious. Chilwell was seen limping out of the field but nobody predicted anything of such seriousness. Now there’s a chance he might be missing the rest of the season.

The London club are for certain going to miss Chilwell for the rest of the season. Speaking in his post-match conference, Thomas Tuchel revealed the severity of Ben Chilwell’s injury and its implications.

“It worries me because he was in such a fantastic moment, like Reece on the other side. They were in the best shape they could possibly be. So strong, full of confidence, and quality,” said Thomas Tuchel.

He was in a lot of pain and now he feels a bit better. We will have the medical examination tomorrow.

Chelsea news: Blues targeting three left-backs as Chilwell alternative

With Ben Chilwell absent now, Marina Granovskaia and Co will have to take quick action in securing a new attacking left wing-back option. Moreover, it’s clear that Thomas Tuchel’s success heavily depends on this.

On the right-hand flank, Reece James has been brilliant. To complement him Marcos Alonso will not be sufficient. Although Chelsea have the option of Italian Emerson Palmieri as well, neither of these two options can do true justice to Ben Chilwell’s position. Hence Chelsea will have to explore the transfer market in January to get new players.

The first option that they have at the moment is German full-back Robin Gosens. The Atalanta man is a prolific goal scorer having reached double digits in the previous two seasons.

He can certainly be a great replacement given the fact that Ben Chilwell is also a goal-scoring threat. Gosens is currently estimated at around £32 million. Although the price is a bit high, his quality is impeccable.

The next option for Chelsea is Ryan Bertrand. The former Chelsea man is definitely a viable option for Thomas Tuchel. Moreover, he’s been associated with the club before as well so will be comfortable.

And finally, the last option is Argentine Nicolas Tagliafico. The Ajax left-back has been looming over with a move away but hasn’t happened. He’s also an attacking option and is estimated at around £16 million. Another option that Thomas Tuchel might be tempted to try out is that of Christian Pulisic in an offensive full-back role. Tuchel has hinted towards this before as well and might just become a reality.
