Chelsea News: West Ham manager David Moyes accused Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy of ‘faking’ an injury to deny the Hammers one point.
Earlier in the match, the Hammers took the lead in the 62nd minute through Michail Antonio. However, Chelsea soon made a comeback. After being subbed in at the 71st minute Chelsea’s left-back Ben Chilwell brought parity to the game. Chilwell then Kai Havertz and the German made no mistake to take the lead.
With only a few minutes left in the injury time, West Ham’s new signing Maxwel Cornet smashed the equaliser after what seemed like an Edouard Mendy blunder.
But he soon saw his goal getting chalked out by VAR owing to a foul by West Ham midfielder Jarrod Bowen on Chelsea custodian Edouard Mendy. The Blues then saw the final few minutes off and secured a very important victory.

After their 2-1 loss against Chelsea, West Ham manager David Moyes has accused Chelsea custodian Edouard Mendy of faking an injury to deny him a well-earned draw.
While speaking on this incident at the post-match conference, the Hammers boss said, “Well have you seen it?! The goalkeeper comes out and fumbles… then acts as if it’s a shoulder injury! I thought ‘there’s no way he’s overturning this’… it was a ridiculously bad decision. I’d question VAR today as much as the referee.”
He also accused Mendy of trying “fake” an injury during the first which according to Moyes and just repeated the same on the second goal which got disallowed by VAR.
Apart from Moyes, West Ham captain Declan Rice has also provided his opinion regarding the incident.
The English international was confused to see the goal getting chalked out and termed it a “disgrace”. The whole West Ham fraternity seemed gutted after the controversial incident and Rice confirmed this in the post match conference.
While speaking about the matter, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel however that it was foul and didn’t want to comment on anything controversial after his hefty fine in the Tottenham match.
West Ham did not have a good start to their English Premier League campaign. The Hammers are currently struggling and have managed to register only one victory. West Ham is currently in 18th place with only four points from the first six matches. They will face FCSB in their Conference League match before facing Newcastle United in Premier League.
Chelsea on the other hand had a topsy turvy start to their campaign. The Blues are currently sixth in the table with ten points from six matches. They will face GNK Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League opener before taking on Fulham in EPL.
