Reports emerged earlier this week that RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku had his medical with Chelsea. The London outfit is in negotiations with the German side to sign the talented attacker next summer.
Now reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the France international had his medical with the Blues a few weeks ago. All parties involved in the deal wanted to keep the deal secret but it somehow broke into the media
However, the deal is far from being completed as both clubs are still negotiating the structure of the deal. In his column for Caught Offside, Romano wrote: “This doesn’t mean it’s a done deal, the medical took place a few weeks ago, and Chelsea have sent a proposal to the player, which he’s happy with.
But with RB Leipzig, there is still work to do on an agreement.
Nkunku was also linked with a move away from the Red Bull Arena during the summer window. However, the move failed to materialise and he signed a new long-term contract with Leipzig.
What will Christopher Nkunku bring to Stamford Bridge?
Valued at £72 million by TransferMarkt, Nkunku is a versatile footballer who is capable of playing anywhere across the forward line or as an attacking midfielder. His key strengths are his dribbling, finishing, and passing skills, along with his ability to find his teammates in key goalscoring positions.
According to WhoScored, he averaged 2.5 shots, 2 key passes, and one dribble in the league this term. He also registered a passing success rate of 80.7 in the Bundesliga.
Chelsea is currently fifth in the Premier League table, with 13 points from seven games. They will next lock horns against AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League before facing Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on October 8.
