Chelsea news: Romelu Lukaku joined the Blues for £97.5 million from Inter Milan during the summer transfer window of 2021.

However, the 29-year-old striker has failed to justify his transfer fee, finding the back of the net just eight goals in 25 EPL appearances so far this season. The Blues manager Thomas Tuchel favoured Timo Werner and Kai Havertz as his first-choice attackers in recent games, demoting Lukaku to the bench.

Lukaku’s lack of first-team action sparked discussions over his long-term future in West London. His agent Federico Pastroello recently suggested that the big striker could move back to Italy at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old’s former club Inter Milan have shown interest in signing him, along with French side Paris St. Germain.

However, Thomas Tuchel recently hinted that Kovacic could play a part against the Reds. He said: “We’ve found ourselves in a situation where we could try, and the player wants to try it – and the medical department gave the permission to try it.

What’s next?

Chelsea are likely to have a big summer transfer window under new owner Todd Boehly. He will probably hand Thomas Tuchel a huge purse to iron out the team’s issues in the summer.

Signing replacements for departing defenders will be one of his top priorities during the summer, along with finding cover at full-ham. He could also look to sign a new striker amid uncertainty over Romelu Lukaku’s future.
