Chelsea news: The Blues scraped a 2-1 win against Watford in the Premier League on Wednesday night. It was a hard-earned victory for the visitors who were far from their best. However, it still keeps them ahead of Manchester City and Liverpool who too recorded wins.
It was an extremely disappointing performance from Chelsea who didn’t find any rhythm whatsoever. They were failing to get the correct passes plus the positioning of the midfield was disastrous.
There was a medical emergency in the Watford stadium with one of the supporters having a cardiac arrest. But thankfully the fan was given immediate medical assistance and he was fine.
However, on either side of the medical emergency, there was no improvement in Chelsea’s play. The visitors still were sloppy in possession and were second to all the 50/50 chances. Watford dominated them in the first half.
Additionally, the performance of Saul Niguez was horrid to say the least. The Spanish international got a chance to start but was absolutely off the mark. He had nothing to offer and even got booked in the first half. Hence he was substituted for Thiago Silva.
This poses serious questions to Thomas Tuchel. What should he do with Saul Niguez? Because it’s clear that Niguez is unable to cope up with the pace of the Premier League. He’s not a young player amd the transition has been tough.
“Very sloppy and it was a very unusual performance for us. Like I said, I had the feeling we were not ready. Not only maybe – I am involved in that, I have to get the team ready, I didn’t prepare them for what was coming because it was the first time we completely underperformed as a team,” said Thomas Tuchel.
“We had the chance to speak about it in the break and then the chance again at half time and tried to give easy messages because it was obvious that we struggled in the build up and skilful solutions.”
Chelsea news: Mason Mount talks about Kai Havertz after Match Winning performance
The sole player who looked like making a difference was Mason Mount. The youngster scored the opener and also assisted the winner by Hakim Ziyech. He was very good throughout the game and had a great work rate.
The first goal from Chelsea was totally against the run of play. Watford continued their attack and were putting pressure on Chelsea. However, the Blues managed to find one window of opportunity and scored.
Antonio Rudiger dinked the ball over to Marcos Alonso who passed to Kai Havertz. The German calmly set up Mason Mount who then finished off an easy chance past Daniel Bachmann.
“Brilliant from Kai,” said Mason Mount after the game. “He could have shot, he was very unselfish and laid it for me and my aim was to get it on target. I’ve been looking to get into the box and score more goals so to get one and an assist as well, I am buzzing for it.”
