Chelsea news: The Blues are interested in signing Arsenal attacker Gabriel Martinelli.
Martinelli has established himself as among the most promising attackers in the Premier League since joining Arsenal from Ituano in 2019. He has played 64 league games for the London outfit so far, registering 14 goals and eight assists.
The youngster enjoyed an excellent 2021-22 season, registering six goals and six assists in 29 Premier League games. He was named the Arsenal Player of the Month for November and January respectively last season.
His performance at the Emirates also impressed Brazil coach Tite, who handed him his international debut in March this year. He has represented his nation three times since then.
Chelsea news: Arsenal star linked with Stamford Bridge move
The Brazil international will enter the final year of his contract with the Gunners in 2023. It could create problems for the North London outfit if Martinelli doesn’t renew his contract until the start of next season.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s new manager Graham Potter is looking to bolster his forward line. At 21, Martinelli is yet to enter his prime and can spreadhead the Blues’ forward line for the years to come.
However, luring him away from the Emirates Stadium won’t be easy for Chelsea given their rivalry with the Gunners. Nevertheless, several players have transferred between the two clubs in recent years, including Petr Cech, Oliver Giroud, and David Luiz.
What will Gabriel Martinelli bring to Stamford Bridge?
Valued at £36 million by TransferMarkt, Martinelli is a versatile attacker who is capable of playing anywhere across the forward line or as an attacking midfield. His key attributes are his dribbling and passing skills, coupled with his finishing.
He has started in all of the Gunners’ opening eight league games this term, registering three goals and one assist. According to WhoScored, he has averaged three shots, 2.3 key passes, and 2.5 dribbles per 90 in the Premier League this term.
Chelsea is currently fifth in the Premier League table, with 13 points from seven games. They will next lock horns against AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League before facing Wolverhampton Wanderers in the league on October 8.
Meanwhile, Martinelli’s Arsenal is currently at the top of the Premier League table with 21 points from eight games. They will next play FK Bodø/Glimt in the UEFA Europa League.
