Chelsea ace Tomori is likely to go out on loan this summer. Everton seems keen to sign him with injury concerns in their squad.
Chelsea has been busy in the summer window bolstering their squad. But they are also steady at offloading some stars from the wage bill. The Blues have already initiated a list of loan moves. Ethan Ampadu will join Sheffield United on a loan deal in the following days. Fikayo Tomori is likely to be the next to move out on loan after Ampadu.
Tomori has been a great young defensive talent. The Englishman did find his breakthrough into the first-team in the last season. He made some amazing strides in Derby County finding him his recognition. Fikayo also soon got a call up to the England international squad. The 22-year-old was thought to become Chelsea’s lead in central defense in time.
But lately, he has been falling down the pecking order. His last appearance for the Blues was back in February. And also missed making an appearance after football resumed. Now with the arrival of Thiago Silva, his role in the squad has been under more speculation. The Veteran will undoubtedly be Lampard’s pick over Tomori.
Hence, he has been put up in the loan market to get experience in the PL. Rennes, Newcastle United, and Everton have shown their interest in him. But Everton seems to be in more advanced talks with Chelsea. The Toffees did make a move for the youngster last summer as well. Hence, a move to Everton seems to be possible.
Ancelotti needs depth in his defence
Everton has Yerry Mina, Michael Keane, and Mason Holgate as their top defensive options. But Ancelotti has been persistent to add more depth to his defense. Also with Mason Holgate picking up an ankle injury, he will need a new man. As a result, they have been eyeing Fikayo Tomori.
Everton has been busy this summer recruiting fresh signings. James Rodriguez has reunited with Ancelotti at Everton. Allan also joining from Napoli for £22m. The toffees are still working on sealing the deal for a couple more stars. Fikayo Tomori is also a name on Ancelotti’s wishlist as per The Athletic.
Tomori has a contract with Chelsea until 2024, but with the youngster lacking time on the field he will leave on a loan. Everton seems to be the keenest suitors for him and a move looks imminent. Chelsea hopes that Tomori will lead their defense in the future. But do not have space for him to stay at the moment.
So, Chelsea will be happy to leave him on a loan. Plus, Everton is a great club for the youngster to acquire experience. And he can secure more minutes on the field with the toffees. Hence, a move may fall into place in the coming days. Chelsea are keen to get some relaxation on the expenditure after an expensive summer window.
Havertz will wear Tomori’s number
Kai Havertz, the fresh arrival of the Blues will be wearing the No.29 jersey. The German international has been wearing the same at Bayer Leverkusen as well. Tomori had already agreed to give Kai the number prior to his loan interest from Everton. Hence, Chelsea’s starman will be happy to wear his favorite number at Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard has been busy to land top signings this summer. Reports are claiming that he will land a keeper soon. Edouard Mendy is likely to be the next signing of the Blues. The Rennes keeper has an asking price of £18m, which sums up to £25m after add-ons.
Mendy will bring in competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Spaniard has not been up to the mark at Chelsea. His drop in form led to speculation of Chelsea shipping him this summer. But the west London side will be patient with him for one more season. And hope that Mendy’s arrival will bring in some friendly competition among the keepers.
