According to La Razon, Chelsea could make a bid for Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze. This summer they spent heavily on recruiting attacking talents. The Blues signed the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
Despite this heavy spending, it looks like they want to bring in more talent at the club. They could be potential suitors for the player who has a release clause of $80 million. The same report has also mentioned a host of other clubs who has been linked with the Nigerian.
The likes of Leicester City, Wolverhampton, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Everton and Liverpool are also interested in him. The yellow submarines are really spoiled for choices, given the number of clubs interested in him. However, anything is far from clear right now.
This season he has made 11 appearances for the club in all competition. He has scored only once and provided three assists. Samuel is only 21 years old as well.
The position of other clubs with regard to the winger
Los Blancos are said to be leading the race, they are also interested in his teammates Pau Torres. The Spaniard has a release clause of $50 million. Both the clubs enjoy good relations, as Real Madrid recently loaned out Takefusa Kubo to Villereal.
It is believed that if Real Madrid are unable to lower the price for both the players, then a potential player push cash deal could be done. Dani Ceballos or Renier Jesus could move in other direction to sweeten the deal.
Last summer Manchester United were desperate to sign Jadon Sancho. However, they failed to bring the Englishman to Old Trafford. They are again expected to go for him in the summer of 2021. If they fail to sign him, then they will try to sign Chukwueze.
While Liverpool wants to add more firepower to their squad. The report suggested that they could also go Wolves Adama Traore, in turn, Wolves could then try to sign Chukwueze. Leicester City looks keen to add more competition on the wing for Harvey Barnes.
Chelsea’s position in this saga
The La Rozon report has only mentioned Chelsea as a club who are interested in him. Lampard already has Ziyech, Havertz, Werner, Pulisic and Callum Hudson Odio at his disposal. All these players are capable of playing in a similar position to the Nigerian.
Out of all the players mentioned Hudson Odoi looks the most likely one to depart. He had a promising start to his career before it was halted by an Achilles injury. At times he has shown flashes of his brilliance but he hasn’t been consistent.
While Lampard is yet to offer him good playing time as well. If Odoi’s departs only then the Blues could move for Chukwueze. Otherwise, there seems to be no need to bring him to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea has other areas to spend their money on.
A better understanding of the situation can only come at the end of the season. If Odoi gets more playing time and plays well, then Chelsea would not want to sell him.
