Chelsea’s injury list grows as first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is ruled out of Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against arch-rivals Arsenal.
The Blues will have to cope without their star goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois as they prepare to step closer to the final of the Carabao Cup. The Belgium International was not part of Chelsea’s remarkable 4-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion due to an ankle injury. Courtois is reportedly not fully recovered from the injury and is still experiencing pain from the knock he suffered while training.
As per Standard Sport, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has decided to rest the big Belgian and will field Willy Caballero who took over the goalkeeper duties in the Brighton fixture as well. Chelsea released a statement on Courtois’ injury after their away win at Brighton. The statement read: ‘Thibaut Courtois is absent today as he got a knock on his ankle in training, He will be monitored over the next few days.’
Chelsea will have to dig deep to field the playing line up with Alvaro Morata, Cesc Fabregas and Gary Cahill ruled out of the fixture as well.
The London sides will face against Manchester City in the final of the Carabao Cup after their win over Bristol City. The Blues have struggled against Arsenal this season having played two goalless fixtures against them so far. Chelsea failed to capitalize in the first leg of the fixture owing to Alvaro Morata missing several chances.

Chelsea would surely miss Courtois between the sticks, the Belgian has accounted for 12 clean sheets so far this season. The club would be hoping for the goalkeeper’s quick recovery as they head into a crucial phase of the season.
