Luis Enrique reportedly wants Chelsea to raid on the Nou Camp to sign their star defender if he is to accept their offer of replacing Antonio Conte.
Chelsea’s potential candidate and former Barcelona manger, Luis Enrique wants to sign Samuel Umtiti as he believes the young defender would be a perfect fit at Stamford Bridge. Umtiti, who joined the Catalans in 2016 has risen to become one of the finest defenders in Europe with Barca.
Enrique worked with Umtiti during his time in charge at the Nou Camp so will know all about what he can offer in the Premier League, and it seems clear the France international looks to have all the qualities needed to be a success in England as well.
Don Balon claim that the club has responded positively as they are apparently willing to do whatever it takes to appoint Enrique. Don Balon also reckon Umtiti has made Barcelona team-mate and neighbour Gerard Pique aware of Chelsea’s interest in him and hinted he’d be up for the prospective switch.
The French defender will be replacing David Luiz, who will be sold after a show of indiscipline under Conte and having a rough time with the Blues.
According to the Reports of Sports, Manchester United Boss Jose Mourinho also sees Umtiti as an ideal player to sign. Mourinho is reportedly in “regular contact” with Umtiti and personally campaigning to convince the defender to move to Old Trafford. The club is said to have offered €9 million per season to the France International in a deal to move to Old Trafford.
Clubs are now slowly turning their eyes toward the summer window. If the news is believed to be true Chelsea board is likely to fulfil the demand of the future manager given the widespread rumors of Conte to accept a move from Stamford Bridge. However, Umiti might find Mourinho’s deal tempting to consider his move.
