Chelsea managed to get off to a decent Premier League start with a 3-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion. Thanks to the goals from Reece James and Kurt Zouma and a penalty kick from Jorginho. But only the German duo Timo Werner and Kai Havertz made their Chelsea debut at the Amex Stadium on Monday.
Though Frank Lampard was missing on various of his marquee players. With the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva, and Ben Chilwell all missed the Premier League start due to injury or low level of fitness.
However, Chelsea is now preparing for their second clash on Sunday with the Jürgen Klopp side. Liverpool is a totally different prospect and Chelsea would have to dig deep to bring down the titleholders. A number of things were spotted while Frank Lampard’s side prepares for the face-off. Chelsea has been handed an injury boost of two of their signings that means Lampard would have more options to choose from.
Ben Chilwell is set to make his first Chelsea debut
Chelsea most discussed signing of the transfer window Ben Chilwell had to miss on his debut on Monday. The former Leicester ace had to wait for his Chelsea debut, unlike other new signings.
The left-back sustained an Achilles injury well before joining the Blues. The injury sidelined him and he couldn’t play for Leicester City at the end of the season. But there is a hope that Chilwell would play against Liverpool as he has been spotted with the squad. Chilwell is making progress from his injury and is well expected to be seen in the Sunday clash.
Thiago Silva joins the training session
Former PSG captain Thiago Silva joined Chelsea on a free transfer and was spotted in the Chelsea colors for the first time. Silva was spotted along with side Ben Chilwell training for the first time.
At first, Thiago was not prepared to appear in his Chelsea debut. Now that he has been receiving training for the last couple of days. Silva is hopeful of appearing in the starting XI on the coming Sunday clash.
Lampard instead player Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma in the away win to Brighton. Zouma however contributed to the first-ever Chelsea victory of the campaign. But Silva has a sufficient amount of experience under his belt. The 35-year old would add a good amount of experience to Lampard’s squad. It is to be seen where he would get placed.
Kai Havertz was spotted deep in conversation
The German pair appeared for their first-ever Premier League debut. Timo Werner gathered a good amount of praises on the other hand it wasn’t a very good start for Kai Havertz. The night at Amex stadium was a silent one where Havertz wasn’t spotted shining in Chelsea colors.
Chelsea as well as its fans expect a lot from the German ace who was at his best at the Bundesliga. Havertz would make up for his debut on Sunday hopefully. Lampard is well aware of Havertz’s situation and thinks he needs time to fit in the club.
The 21-year old was found deeply involved in the conversation with Frank Lampard. He is still very young and would learn from the head coach as and when needed.
Matteo Kovacic return
Not just players were not fit missed the starting victory but Matteo Kovacic was also absent from the squad. The 26-year old is out due to the red card he received in the FA cup final. Kovacic only played for few pre-season minutes along with fewer minutes for Croatia. He is all set to appear for a big Match on Sunday as he was spotted at the training ground.
