Chelsea currently sits in fourth place after a win at Brighton and now the club might making some long-term decisions regarding their players.
It is a happy camp at Chelsea now. The players seem to enjoy what Maurizio Sarri has to offer. They have produced some very entertaining and attacking football. Now the club look to tie down key players with contracts. According to reports, the Blues seemed to have opened discussions with Antonio Rudiger.
Rudiger’s response to reports
Antonio Rudiger has revealed he is not in talks with Chelsea over a new contract. The defender had been rumoured to be thrashing out a new deal with the Blues, but the German insists he is happy with his current terms. When asked if he is discussing new terms with Chelsea, Rudiger replied, “That’s not the case, to be honest. There’s no need because I still have three-and-a-half years to go. There’s no speaking between me and the club. It’s also not necessary at the moment either with three-and-a-half years to go.”
Rudiger also spoke about Chelsea’s talisman, Eden Hazard. Blues boss Maurizio Sarri has challenged the playmaker to find the net 40 times this campaign. But the German insists the 27-year-old is just as happy creating as he is scoring.“He doesn’t have too much ego, so if he sees someone in a better position he plays them in, and that’s fair enough,” said Rudiger.
“The way he’s playing is fantastic. We all know what he’s capable of and I’m happy for him. Every position he plays he makes a statement, he’s strong. He’s really doing a fantastic job. He’s a leader, he’s a good example, not by speaking, but by doing, so he’s very good.”
The German had previously revealed that he prefers Sarri to Conte.“Having played at Roma I already knew how he likes to play and it’s a style I like, he wants us to press higher than last season where everyone knows that now we are different, we create a lot of chances, and then the coach likes the defenders to keep the ball, to make short passages I have shown so far I can do that but I want to improve every day, I can always do better.”
Antonio Rudiger has been a fan-favourite since his arrival from Roma in summer 2017. The central-defender has featured in all Premier League matches so far this season for Chelsea. The big German has been pivotal to Chelsea’s much-improved defence, and with David Luiz, the team has a solid centre-back partnership. The Blues shouldn’t pass up on a chance to renew his deal and £120k a week wage should be much of a problem.
